We’re working together with our customers and communities to create the future of energy.
About us
At American Electric Power, we provide more than electricity to our millions of customers – we energize possibilities. We’re redefining the future of energy by reducing our carbon footprint, empowering the communities we serve and developing the workforce for the future. All while delivering the reliable and affordable service our customers expect. We remain committed to a clean energy future and are shifting to a more balanced generation mix. We’ve cut our carbon dioxide emissions significantly since 2000 and continue to expand our renewable energy sources, while encouraging electrification to lessen our environmental footprint. AEP is on track to reach an 80% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from 2005 levels by 2030 and is working to achieve net zero by 2045. AEP owns and operates the largest transmission system in the country, and our distribution networks provide power to homes and businesses in 11 states. We continue to invest billions in our infrastructure to deploy cutting edge technologies that support the clean energy transition and enhance service for our customers. Our employees power everything we do, which is why we’re focused on hiring and retaining top talent, reimagining the future of work and offering competitive pay and benefits. Diversity, equity and inclusion are cornerstones of our company culture, and we continually seek out new skills and perspectives that spark innovation. We strive to do more than keep the lights on – AEP is passionate about being a force for good in the communities where we live and work. Our commitment to building stronger, more vibrant communities extends beyond volunteerism and philanthropy. AEP’s focus on economic development in our service territory helps deliver more jobs, tax revenue and opportunity. Together with our customers and communities, we’re building a new, brighter future.

In 2024, we've seen unprecedented weather extremes. Our lineworkers, always ready to respond, are currently tackling the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, many far away from their families. Today is recognized by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) as Lineworker Appreciation Day, an important one in the utility industry. We’re grateful for these brave individuals and all they do for our communities today and all days. #ThankALineworker AEP Ohio AEP Texas Appalachian Power Indiana Michigan Power Kentucky Power Public Service Company of Oklahoma Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO)

We had a fantastic time celebrating #MilitaryAppreciation Night with our partners at Columbus Crew! Members of our Military and Veterans Employee Resource Group (MVERG) participated in the opening ceremonies. Kara Kuhns performed the coin toss and Gregory Young MBA, BSCIS, CBCP was honored as Hometown Hero. A special thanks to our MVERG members for making this event such a success, and to all former and active military personnel for their dedication and sacrifice.

Bucket truck rides, #drones and #VR were some of the most exciting parts of our lunch welcoming our summer interns to AEP. Students got to explore the A Ray King Transmission Training Center and see up close what it takes to keep the lights on. We’re excited to have these future #engineers with us for the next few months as they explore #AEPcareers with us.

Yesterday, members of our Black Employee Resource Group (BERG) hosted their annual Juneteenth celebration. The theme, "Forward in Time: Emancipation's Continuing Progress," allowed members to listen in and discuss the importance of Juneteenth through a historical lens and explore expressions of the fight for freedom and equity through art. Thank you, BERG for opening the space for employees to connect and learn together.

It’s truly remarkable to see the way that our crews across companies and states come together to support their sister utilities and their communities when the weather does her worst. Thank you to everyone who rallied behind Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) during the last couple of weeks. #MutualAid #StormRecovery
HEARTFELT APPRECIATION - EVP of Utilities, Peggy Simmons, shared a message of gratitude to our team and our communities after weeks of back-to-back devastating storms, which included 11 tornadoes, historic rainfall and high winds in Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana. All of us at SWEPCO echo her sentiments and are so thankful for our crews and the crews that came from AEP Texas and Public Service Company of Oklahoma to offer mutual assistance as we worked to get the lights back on as quickly and as safely as possible. We also extend our gratitude to our customers for their support and patience during this difficult storm season. #ThankALineworker
