Did you know? #Biogas production was focused exclusively on generating electricity and/or heat from the 1970s to the mid-2000s. That all changed during the mid-2000s when more facilities began upgrading raw biogas into pipeline-quality renewable natural gas (#RNG). Since 2018, dramatic growth has occurred in biogas-to-RNG projects. In the agricultural sector RNG projects now exceed the number of power projects, and represent 52% of all operational agriculture projects in the U.S. The development of dairy and swine digester clusters has contributed to this growth. Clusters include two to 30 or more farm digesters that are connected to a single biogas-to-RNG upgrading site. Once the biogas has been upgraded to RNG it is then added to the local gas pipeline system.

Don't miss this piece by Sergey Buchin in Forbes that discusses the immense potential of #biogas to provide clean energy and reduce methane emissions. The article highlights case studies of Smithfield Foods and Calgren Dairy Fuels, and calls for investors, policymakers and industry leaders to "come together to establish a conducive environment for the development of RNG." We couldn't agree more! #benefitsofbiogas #renewablefuels #renewableenergy

Bright Renewables and BerQ RNG Inc. RNG recently announced four new renewable gas (RNG) projects across Michigan and New York. Expected to be completed by the end of this year, the projects will quickly make a significant impact in cutting carbon emissions and further establishing RNG as a sustainable energy source. https://lnkd.in/gMpDGVnm

#Biogas systems create a closed-loop cycle, providing many ongoing benefits to farmers and farmland. 🐄🐖 Manure recycled in these systems produce biogas that can be used to create electricity or renewable natural gas. This energy can be used on the farm, and any excess can be sold, creating an additional revenue stream for farmers. The solid digested material can be dried and used for animal bedding, while the liquid digestate is used for crop fertilizer – both of these result in cost-savings for the farmer. Last month at #WorldBiogasSummit and Expo, ABC Events Coordinator Erika Marohn met Certified Operator Flavio Ascenco and presented him with his commemorative plaque. As the Technical Support Manager for the World Biogas Association and the The Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA), Flávio took ABC’s #biogas Operator School virtually this February and became Certified in March. When asked about #OperatorTraining, Flávio said “ABC’s Operator School program provides insightful knowledge of how to effectively operate biogas plants while covering technologies that can be used in a variety of applications. The math module in particular is a fantastic way of highlighting the importance and need to monitor and record findings. As well as training, the event provides great tools and network contacts to assist with plant operations. While the training is mostly American industry-driven, it relates to biogas world standards on multiple occasions. Well done ABC!” Congratulations on your Certification, Flávio! Interested in attending Operator School and becoming a #CertifiedOperator? Register for our next training, happening this August, today: https://lnkd.in/e8aZXCAD

Municipal solid waste landfills are the 3rd largest source of human-related methane emissions in the U.S.—behind natural gas and petroleum systems and livestock enteric fermentation. #BiogasSystems aid in capturing methane from the trash at landfills, then turning it into renewable energy. The U.S. currently has 566 landfill gas (LFG) projects, including 23 new projects added in 2023. #BenefitsOfBiogas
