Improving Health Through Medical Physics
About us
The mission of AAPM is advancing medicine through excellence in the science, education and professional practice of medical physics; a broad-based scientific and professional discipline which encompasses physical principles with applications in biology and medicine. With over 9500 members in 94 countries, AAPM supports the Medical Physics community with a focus on advancing patient care through education, improving safety and efficacy of radiation oncology and medical imaging procedures through research, and the maintenance of professional standards. AAPM publishes two scholarly journals Medical Physics, and the Journal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics (JACMP), as well as an AAPM Report Series. AAPM sponsors three scientific meetings each year, a spring clinical meeting, a main summer annual meeting, and a fall scientific meeting (joint with the Radiological Society of North America).

Welcome to the July/August 2024 edition of the AAPM Newsletter, the pre-Annual Meeting edition. Read at https://aapm.me/461Lkac Inside you will find an update from the organizing committee with more details on the meeting. Also in this issue, AAPM President Todd Pawlicki summarizes the progress made on AAPM’s strategic plan and other important updates, and Treasurer Samuel Armato reports on AAPM’s financial landscape and the necessity for change, including a proposed member dues increase which will be discussed during the 2024 Annual Business Meeting. The Special Interest Group for this issue is the American Physical Society (APS) Topical Group on Medical Physics (GMED); read their report to learn how medical physicists can connect with APS through GMED to further our science, education, and outreach initiatives. This issue also contains updates from the International Council, with features on three Global Rising Stars, and the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee, along with many other interesting reports. Please share the Newsletter articles you enjoy with your social media network, as the Newsletter is available for all to read and not restricted to AAPM members.
