On June 19th we celebrate Juneteenth, or Freedom Day. This holiday is known as the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. In 1865, just two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, Union soldiers went to Galveston, Texas to enforce the freeing of all remaining slaves. It is considered the longest running African American holiday and has been called America's second Independence Day. #Juneteenth
