National, co-ed professional fraternity for architecture and the allied arts

About us

Founded in 1914, Alpha Rho Chi (APX) is the national fraternity for architecture and the allied arts. Our co-ed organization unites members for the purpose of fellowship and lifelong friendships and our mutual interest in professional development. This is exemplified by the fraternity’s motto: Fidelitas, Amor et Artes or “Fidelity and Love of the Arts.” Student and alumni members study and practice architecture, interior design, architectural engineering, landscape architecture, and related disciplines. Alpha Rho Chi is a charter member of the Professional Fraternity Association.

    Designer at M.W. Steele Group

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to attend Alpha Rho Chi's 76th National Convention in Omaha, NE. Since first attending the event in 2015, I've taken pleasure in seeing new and familiar faces, learning about architecture schools across the nation, and broadening my understanding of the possibilities within environmental design. Some of my favorite parts included the ten-year alumni track prepared by Zack Borell and Alumni Directors, and Ingrid Kanics' presentation about applying principles of Universal Design to playgrounds. I currently volunteer with the Expansion Team (pictured here), who are working to install Alpha Rho Chi chapters at more universities. I'm grateful to be part of an organization that continues to give back to its members throughout every stage of their career as design professionals.

Check out what the Hadrian Chapter at Tulane University has been up to! In a collaboration between Tulane University’s Hadrian Chapter, Strong City Tulane, and an after-school program for elementary school kids, a recent philanthropic event unfolded to spark the imaginations of budding young designers. The fraternity members, driven by a passion for both architecture and community engagement, decided to guide these young students through a creative journey of envisioning and building their dream houses.

Happy Founders Day Alpha Rho Chi! On April 11, 1914, Leo M. Bauer and Chandler C. Cohagen met at the Hotel Sherman in Chicago to establish Alpha Rho Chi. 110 years later our devotion to Brotherhood and Professional Development has not diminished. Thank you to all the brothers of APX who have made this fraternity great since its founding! Fidelitas, Amor et Artes.

Architect and Structural Engineer in Training

I had the pleasure to spend this weekend at the Professional Fraternity Association's annual convention in Albuquerque representing Alpha Rho Chi alongside our Worthy Grand Architect AJ Kessinger. I'm excited to bring the knowledge and connections gained this weekend back to help our professional organization grow into the future and provide programs to help our collegiate and alumni brothers succeed.
