This morning the Tools Competition announced 50 winners of the 2023-24 cohort! Learn more about the winners here: https://lnkd.in/gGyMCypw Winners were selected from over 1,900 submissions worldwide! Collectively, winners from varying backgrounds and phases of development were awarded more than $8 million, and their tools are projected to impact over 24 million learners by 2027. Winning solutions will play a key role in accelerating and better assessing learning outcomes, strengthening 21st-century skills, boosting the impact of early childhood instruction, facilitating the learning science research process, engaging adult learners in higher education, and training and upskilling learners for an adaptive workforce. The 2023-24 Tools Competition was run with support from: Renaissance Philanthropy, Griffin Catalyst, Walton Family Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Siegel Family Endowment, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Ballmer Group, Calbright College, Axim Collaborative, Jacobs Foundation, Endless, and OpenAI and was administered by The Learning Agency and Georgia State University. A new report from The Aspen Institute's Strategy Group is out with a new report, "Fortifying America's Future: Pathways for Competitiveness." Co-authored by ALI's Sara Schapiro, Daniel Correa of the Federation of American Scientists, and contributors from the Walton Family Foundation and the Aspen Strategy Group. The report highlights the pressing need for greater support and investments in the young people who will soon become America’s workforce, and it summarizes ideas and strategies that came out of two roundtables focused on how to create pathways for jobs of the future. The recommended strategies include: Leveraging the National Security Community to create a sense of urgency around improving education. Providing Federal Incentives and Spotlighting State Approaches by building coalitions around key industries, supporting states in developing K-12 pathways, and highlighting impactful place-based approaches that can be scaled. Bolstering Education R&D to Advance Career-Connected Learning by creating and funding ARPA-ED, improving our data systems, and promoting evidence-based practices in career-connected learning. Encouraging Students to Pursue Careers in Key Industries by exposing them to more technology-related topics early and communicating the opportunities available to them in key industries. Notably, the recommendations discussed in this report support ALI’s priorities of establishing an ARPA for education (a National Center for Advanced Development in Education, or NCADE) and improving Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems. To better understand the current state of affairs and chart a path forward toward an appropriately-sized, inclusive, and equity-centered education R&D infrastructure at the federal, state, and local levels, the Alliance for Learning Innovation (ALI) convened three diverse, nonpartisan task forces over the last year to dig into three critical, urgent priorities:  - Strengthening state and local education R&D infrastructure, - Making the education R&D ecosystem more inclusive and  - Expanding and strengthening the role in education R&D of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs), and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs).
