The ASA is a large part of Alberta's visual arts history, through its members, its exhibitions and other initiatives. The Alberta Society of Artists was founded in 1931, making it the oldest society of juried professional artists in the province.

2. Who can apply? Do I have to be a member of the ASA?
-You are an Alberta Artist, who is over 18 years old, and are a professional artist.
-No, you do not need to be a member of the ASA.
3. I have had a show with the ASA in the past; does that matter?
-SOLO, min 5 year wait
-SMALL GROUP, wait a min 3 years wait
-If you were in a large group show, NO waiting period
4. How much does it cost to apply?
-it is free to apply!
5. Where can I have an exhibition, how long are the exhibitions, and how many exhibition opportunities are there?
- 3 x 1 month at the Calgary Central Libary
- 9 x 2 months in the ASA Galleries in Calgary (including Upper and Lower Spaces)
--please note that the number of opportunities may be subject to change based on funding
--there will be a separate call for a location in Edmonton later this year
6. How does the ASA choose which exhibitions are selected?
- Like with many of the things we do, the ASA makes selections through a Blind Jury Process.
- First, all proposals are reviewed by staff for completeness and then have identifying information such as names and signatures removed from the proposal.
- A Jury of experienced artists that have not/are not applying to have an exhibition from a diverse range of disciplines independently review each exhibition and rank the proposals based on what they think are the strongest based on aspects including; concept, theme, proposal, sampled work, CV, etc.
- Juror rankings are compiled based on results, and exhibition opportunities are matched with the strongest submissions; these are offered to the applicants.
- Once an exhibition opportunity is accepted and all opportunities are allocated, the successful applicant's names may be released.
- The identities of unsuccessful applicants and any Jurors are not disclosed.
- The Jurors change between each call
