State Rep. Sam Park, D-Lawrenceville, has just introduced the #FamilyCaregiver Tax Credit Act, aiming to provide significant relief to those who selflessly care for their loved ones. This legislation proposes remarkable enhancements, including a substantial increase in the cap on tax credits for caregiving expenses – from $150 to a potential $1,000! Under this act, the age requirement for qualifying #caregivers would drop from 62 to 18, reflecting the diverse demographics of caregiving responsibilities. With approximately 1.26 million family caregivers in Georgia alone, this legislation comes as a beacon of hope for those who dedicate their time and resources to ensure the well-being of their loved ones. Setbacks out of Indiana for #familycaregivers... The state announced a significant cut to the program that pays family caregivers, citing a $1 billion Medicaid budget shortfall. This decision has far-reaching consequences for so many families like that of 15-year-old Alexander Davis, who is dependent on others for all his needs due to spinal muscular atrophy. This setback underscores the urgency of the work Aidaly is doing to secure fair compensation for family caregivers. In the face of adversity, we must rally together to ensure that individuals like Alexander continue to receive the care they deserve. Family Caregivers in #Oklahoma have some relief coming their way! The 'Caring for Caregivers Act' (HB 1029) introduces a #familycaregiver tax credit covering eligible expenses. The act aims to ease the financial burden from home modifications to equipment purchases and caregiver support. Eligible family members aged 62 or older requiring assistance with daily activities qualify for the credit. 📆 Starting from the 2024 tax year, this initiative is poised to make a meaningful impact. It’s Go Time for longevity investing, according to Suzanne Woolley at Bloomberg in her piece on Where to Invest in Future Trends (Longevity is sandwiched between AI and Space Investing on her Top 4 list). During our conversation, I emphasized the critical need to reimagine infrastructure, healthcare, finance, and prepare for and serve an aging population. A recently introduced bipartisan bill offers a solution to address the impact of unpaid #familycaregiving on retirement savings! 📰 The proposed bill aims to empower individuals who took at least one year out of the workforce to care for a family member without receiving earned income. Under this legislation, they would be allowed to make catch-up contributions in years before age 50 to their 401(k) plans, IRAs, and other eligible #retirement accounts.
