Article in The Washington Post reporting that over 1 billion birds could be killed each year by hitting buildings. Aren't we lucky to have members like Anne Lewis, FAIA and her colleagues at City Wildlife and own AIA|DC's Advocacy Committee for proposing and supporting the Migratory Local Wildlife Protection Act in 2022 which provides measures to create bird-friendly buildings. DC is doing its part. https://lnkd.in/e7NDMxsJ

AIA|DC advances the value of architecture for our members, our profession and our community.
About us
Founded in 1887, the Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects serves the Nation's Capital, functioning as both the "local" and "state" component of the AIA for the District of Columbia. The Chapter was intimately involved in the design and planning of Washington, and continues to play an active role in city development today. AIA|DC is housed in the District Architecture Center (DAC), in the heart of DC’s bustling Penn Quarter District. DAC is where architecture meets the city. If you enjoy architecture, DAC is the place for you. DAC houses the Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the Washington Architectural Foundation.

Thanks to everyone who has written emails - have you sent on one yet?
There is an old adage in fundraising that the most common reason people don't give is that nobody asked. So glad we asked our members to help support the passage of B25-0423, the Architect and Engineer Good Samaritan Act of 2023 which provide immunity from civil damages to licensed architects or professional engineers who, in good faith and without compensation utilize their professional skills in providing rescue or relief assistance at the scene of, or in connection with, a natural or human-made disaster or other life-threatening emergency. So far I've been copied on close to 50 emails headed to Councilmember Brooke Pinto to encourage her to move it out of committee and in front of the Council for a vote. Big thank you to all of you who sent email. If you have not yet sent an email, please do. Passage of this bill is really important for the health and safety of the citizens of our city. 🙏
