However, during the demo Mark Chen called out “If you are wondering about this wire, it is so we have consistent internet.” This showcases one of the key hurdles to rolling out human-like conversational AI as seen in the demo. The real-world internet is anything but consistent. One of the biggest obstacles is the "last mile" connection between mobile devices and ISPs with fluctuations in bandwidth, signal dropouts, higher congestion and packet-loss. These factors make it incredibly difficult to deliver reliable and consistent real-time communication for both human-to-human and human-AI interactions. Overcoming this last mile challenge requires infrastructure capable of making the internet work in real-time, optimizing performance for reliable low-latency connections that enable natural conversation. While "consistent internet" may not be possible, leveraging a real-time network like Agora's can enable a consistent connection —without the wire.
