AJSOCAL congratulates our Policy Intern, Karina Ngo for completing her 6-month internship. This summer, Karina will be graduating from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts in her two majors: Political Science and Public Affairs. Throughout her internship, Karina learned about the different functions of AJSOCAL, how we build our relationships across California, and how policy advocacy is done in Sacramento. At the end of her internship, she presented her capstone project that dove into the intrigue and confusing web of language accessibility laws. “Karina was a valuable member of our team, consistently completing tasks quickly and taking in the lessons I wanted her to learn with ease. Her lighthearted personality allowed her to connect easily with other team members across AJSOCAL and contribute to our cooperative environment. I wish Karina the best of luck as she pursues her post-graduate plans” – Benjamin Tran, Policy Strategist and Karina’s supervisor

Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California (AJSOCAL) denounces President Biden’s Executive Order restricting asylum seekers at the U.S. Southern border. We call on President Biden to offer just and humanitarian solutions that instead safeguard the fundamental human rights of asylum seekers and address the core causes of forced migration. #border #immigrantheritagemonth #ajsocal #immigrantrights #asylum

We had an incredible time celebrating AAPI Heritage Month on May 14th in Sacramento. The event was filled with energy and pride as we honored some amazing individuals for their outstanding contributions: Legacy of Courage Award: Assemblymember Phil Ting Visionary Legislator Award: Assemblymember Ash Kalra Change Catalyst Award: Allison Lim, Chief of Staff for Assemblymember Alex Lee Changemaker for Equity Award: Jessica Duong, Legislative Director at the UC Office of the President The celebration brought together legislators, legislative staff, AAPI community leaders, and members to not only recognize these inspiring honorees but also to spotlight AJSOCAL's powerful theme, "Our Untold Stories," aimed at combating Asian invisibility. It was a memorable evening of recognition, unity, and a renewed commitment to sharing our stories and making our voices heard. Let's keep the momentum going and continue to support and uplift our community! Check out the full blog on our website at ajsocal.org #AAPIHM #AANHPIHM #AAPIHeritageMonth

During AAPI Heritage Month, AJSOCAL worked to create new online citizenship and health access tutorials in English and multiple languages! For the naturalization process, we recognize the challenges of language barriers, financial difficulties, and limited information. That’s why our comprehensive tutorials feature modules on eligibility, application processes, and interview preparation. Our Health Access Program (HAP) is essential in bridging the gap between healthcare services and the AAPI community. HAP has created Healthcare Access and Enrollment tutorials that cover a wide range of health coverage topics and walks you through the application and enrollment process for Medi-Cal and Covered California. These tutorials are available in Chinese (simplified and traditional), Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, and English to break language barriers and increase language accessibility. Watch them on our website at ajsocal.org! By addressing language barriers, financial challenges, and limited information resources, we can help our clients navigate the systems for citizenship and health insurance. As we end AAPI Heritage Month, join us in continuing to promote social justice, equity, and empowerment. From our multilingual tutorials to community outreach, AJSOCAL is dedicated to uplifting the AAPI community, especially the most disadvantaged. Let's make a difference together!
