After a successful Defense 3D Printing Technical Exchange Roundtable in South Korea last month, delegates from the Ministry of National Defense, Republic of Korea, visited the ASTM International Washington, DC, office for a more in-depth discussion. 💡 Key topics included the state of additive manufacturing (AM) in the defense industry, global armed forces' readiness to deploy AM, standards and certification, workforce challenges, business models, and the need for ongoing collaboration. Our VP of Global Policy, Cooperation, and Communications, Jeff Grove, shared our longstanding relationships with the Republic of Korea and highlighted ASTM's growing engagement with the United States Department of Defense and NATO. He emphasized how collaboration and flexibility promote innovation and alignment. Our VP of Global Advanced Manufacturing Programs, Dr. Mohsen Seifi, discussed our growing collaboration with the AM industry in Korea, such as the recent MoU with #3DFIA, spotlighting recent high-impact training programs and upcoming ones. The meeting included the Ministry of National Defense, Republic of Korea personnel and colleagues Kimberly Gibson of America Makes and Robyn Vialva, PhD, Air Force Research Laboratory. We thank Mr. Kim Jingyu, Director of the Weapon & Equipment Management Division; Ms. Nayoung Sim, Director of the Material Management Division; and Major Jung Inyoung, who oversees 3D Printing Policy at the Ministry of National Defense for their great visit and discussion.
