Exciting News! 🌟 Acterra has been awarded a $299k grant from CARB to install 10 air quality monitors in East San Jose! For the next two years, Acterra: Action for a Healthy Planet, in partnership with local agencies and community-based organizations, will implement this technical project to enhance air monitoring data in areas with limited infrastructure. These monitors will be positioned in neighborhood schools that bear the brunt of air pollution and where residents have fewer resources to handle health problems caused by pollution. This initiative aims to inform science, health, and social justice discussions, driving actions to improve public health. We will also train residents on how to use and maintain air quality monitors, and how to read, analyze, and use the resulting data. Additionally, we will engage students and families in working with local government agencies to take actions that improve local air quality. This project is supported by the “California Climate Investments” (CCI) program, a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap- and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment—particularly in disadvantaged communities. Sustainability Service Corps (SSC) is accepting applications for our AmeriCorps 11- month fellowship program. SSC Fellows will lead sustainability projects and work alongside climate leaders. Fellows will develop professionally while making a lasting impact in California communities. Their program offers a monthly stipend , healthcare benefits (w/dental and vision), UC Climate Stewards certification, and an Education Award upon completion of the fellowship. 🌿✨ The Garden to Plate Cooking Demo last weekend was a big success! 🍽️🥗 Acterra's fellows Crystal Hernandez and Remy Rinn led the cooking demonstration at Urban Tilth’s 6th garden, creating a hearty salad with fresh ingredients from the garden and sharing practical tips on sustainable kitchen practices. A group of 10 people joined in to help beautify the garden and enjoyed a meal together at the end of the event.
