Knowing Life Matters Since 1981

About us

In 1981, Acadian Air Med became the first aeromedical provider in the Gulf of Mexico. Today, with decades of onshore and offshore experience responding to victims in areas where access by ground ambulance is difficult or impossible, Acadian Air Med is a national leader in air ambulance medical transports, flying more first response missions than any other air medical program in the country. For emergency transports, Air Med operates an extensive fleet of medically configured helicopter ambulances. Our bases are strategically located in Lafayette, Houma, Baton Rouge, Alexandria, Lake Charles, Hammond and Monroe, Louisiana. For extended medical transports across the continental United States, we also operate a collection of fixed-wing units, including Learjet 35 aircraft. The Air Med crew is a team of compassionate critical care flight RNs and paramedics, held to the same notable standards as our highly accredited Acadian Ambulance Service division, transporting adult and pediatric patients. Our nationally registered CCT flight paramedics are cross-trained as flight controllers/coordinators to ensure patients receive the highest standard of care possible. Extensive treatment protocol includes stroke care, acute coronary syndrome treatment, advanced trauma life support and rapid sequence induction using operating room procedures. Air Med's Rotor Wing Operations are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems, the gold standard for air ambulance services in the United States. All of our rotor-wing and fixed-wing aircraft are equipped with technologically advanced diagnostic and life support medical equipment. All FAA Part 135 aviation services provided by Metro Aviation, Inc., which maintains exclusive operational control over all aircraft.

Richard's legacy endures through his beautiful family, and in every life saved, every patient helped, and every battle he waged to ensure that all people had access to high-quality medical care. He never backed down when fighting for the things he loved most: his family, his Acadian employees, and the communities they serve. We will forever be changed, forever be grateful, and forever be better because of who Richard was and the lessons and legacy he has left us. It is up to all of us to honor this legacy by living and leading by his example and his faith. The service will be streamed live this Wednesday, June 12, at 10:00 a.m. and viewable at Acadian.com/Richard.
