On Thursday 11 July 2024, Absa Mauritius took a significant step towards a greener tomorrow by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security and the Le Morne Heritage Trust Fund. This initiative goes beyond reforestation. By joining hands with the Le Morne Heritage Trust Fund and the Forestry Service, we are committed to preserving Africa's natural and cultural heritage and being a force for good in everything that we do. As part of our long-term commitment to this project, we plan to engage our customers, the local community, and employees in joining us to create a more sustainable and inclusive future for all. 𝐀𝐛𝐬𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐮𝐬 – 𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞-𝐞𝐲𝐞 On 27 June 2024, Absa Mauritius proudly signed an agreement with the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation (MWF) to become the gold sponsor for the conservation of the critically endangered Mauritius Olive White-eye bird through the MWF’s Species Champions programme. As part of our sustainability strategy, we are committed to environmental restoration and the protection of local biodiversity. The Mauritius Olive White-eye bird faces the risk of extinction as its natural habitat is increasingly at risk. Absa Mauritius, partnering with the MWF, is committed to changing the story of the Olive White-eye bird species. The MWF, with the support of Absa Mauritius, is working to restore the bird’s natural habitat on Ile aux Aigrettes and the Black River Gorges to enhance the species’ survival through several protective measures, including supplementary feeding and protection against predatory species. This long-term commitment aims to significantly decrease the risk of extinction for the Mauritius Olive White-eye over the next decade.
