We’re halfway through the year, and June brings a culmination of anniversaries: Vincent Chin’s legacy, Juneteenth, Gun Violence Awareness Month, the reversal of Roe v. Wade, and Pride ➡️ This November, there is an opportunity for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) to use our voices to vote for progress. Reflecting on these anniversaries has us fired up from the key moments in history that showcase the power in our communities! There’s a lot at stake in this presidential election, and we urge you to stay informed and join us in our fight for equity. Join us for Commemorating Vincent Chin in front of Monterey Park City Hall from 7:00 – 8:00 pm on Sunday, June 23rd. The Chinese American Museum annually dedicates this evening in remembrance of Vincent Chin’s murder, which served as a pivotal point in the Asian American civil rights movement. This annual commemoration allows for the reflection of racial inequality and discrimination that continues to persist in today’s highly polarized social climate, just as it did decades before. The evening’s program will include special remarks from invited guest speakers and will conclude with a candlelight vigil in remembrance of Vincent Chin. RSVP is not required, and parking can be found throughout the neighborhood streets.

This Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month and Mental Health Awareness Month, we are reminded of the critical importance for in-language, culturally responsive mental health care. That is what Yong Yang — a Koreatown resident killed by law enforcement upon suffering a severe mental health crisis — needed and deserved. At AAPI Equity Alliance, we are committed to building capacity for mental health organizations and cultivating safe spaces for community members geared towards radical healing. We spoke with some of our member organizations (Korean American Family Services (KFAM), NAPAFASA, Search to Involve Pilipino Americans, SSG-Asian Pacific Counseling & Treatment Centers), who shared stories of transformation and hope in light of the tragedy. Because only through collective healing can we truly make meaningful progress. Read our full newsletter here: https://lnkd.in/gh2d8FZu __ #AAPIHeritageMonth #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth

It was an honor to represent California Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander American Affairs at the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) summit and gala along with Commission’s Chair Jason Paguio. As community leaders came together from all across the nation to celeberate #AANHPI Heritage Month, Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) celebrated its 30th anniversary-Our Community, Our Leaders, Our Legacy. California showed up strong, it was great to see our partners, allies and leaders Manjusha P. Kulkarni, California Teachers Association, Cheryl H. and many others.
