Vehicle and vehicle related theft is on the rise! We’ve worked to organize and support events aimed at preventing vehicle-related thefts and helping our communities fight catalytic converter and car thefts. In California, we united with Hyundai and the Los Angeles Police Department to aid Hyundai owners in upgrading their anti-theft software and etching their vehicle’s VIN number on their catalytic converters and rear-facing window. In New Mexico, our co-sponsored catalytic converter event with the Central New Mexico Community College (CNMCC) in Albuquerque saw the etching of 89 vehicles by the OSI’s criminal law enforcement division, whose agents instructed CNM students on the process.

AAA and the California Highway Patrol have worked closely together for nearly 100 years. Before the CHP was founded in 1929, the Auto Club of Southern California ran its own Highway Patrol Service to help stranded drivers and clear roadside hazards. Today, the CHP and the Auto Club continue to support one another in safety efforts such as this year’s CHP Day for the Southern Division, which honored exceptional officers, employees and volunteers. On hand to celebrate their achievements was “CHiPs” TV show star Erik Estrada, who chatted with some members of the AAA Public Affairs team at the awards event.

If you’re unsure about the right safety seat for your child passenger, or how to install it, register for one of our free online workshops. The online workshop includes a variety of helpful information, from how to select the right safety seat for your child, to safety seat installation tips, and more. Salute, our military Business Resource Group (BRG) is honoring our veterans and active-duty military members by asking our employees to wear red on Fridays through the month of July. Wear Red Friday is a way for us to say, “thank you for your service!” and show our solidarity with and support of our military personnel and their families. Join us and show your support by wearing red, too!

Almost 71 million travelers will head 50 miles or more from home over the Independence Day holiday travel period, according to our latest forecast released June 20. That’s a 5% increase compared to 2023. The majority of those travelers, more than 85%, will make the trip by car. If you’re one of them, be alert, don’t drive intoxicated, and put your phone down.

Summer is in full swing, and so are we. We want to remind everyone that summer is also a more dangerous time for novice drivers. Did you know that seven people are killed each day in crashes involving a teen driver in the days between Memorial Day and Labor Day? Enjoy summer fun, but also: Teach your teen to be safe on the road. Consider enrolling them in one of our free Dare to Prepare online workshops!
