  • Happy Birthday to the King of Stickers, Bill “Pos” Posladek! The founder and the “B” in A.B. May, would’ve been 95 today. During A.B. May’s early years, Bill wanted a way for customers to find A.B. May’s phone number quickly when major systems broke down in their homes. That’s when he designed our original silver stickers. Meant to be shiny so they were easily noticeable, they were also small enough to fit in a technician's shirt pocket so they could always have them handy. Technicians would put them on furnaces, water heaters, electrical panels, garbage disposals, and more! Happy Birthday, Bill. 🎉

  • Meet, HVAC Apprentice, Kara! Kara has been with A.B. May for a year. She started out in our Customer Support department and was promoted to our Customer Advocacy and Service Plan Administration team before transitioning to the apprenticeship program. Kara decided to pursue a career in the trades when she started working for A.B. May. After she learned more about our apprenticeship program, she decided to take the leap of faith. Her favorite part of the apprenticeship program is the ability to tap into endless trade knowledge. “Every day is different and you never know what you’re going to walk into.” One piece of advice she would give homeowners is to trust their technicians and to look into Service Plans for their homes. Service Plans are beneficial to keep in your back pocket so it’s there when you need it. When she’s not being an apprentice, she loves reading, watching movies, and being outside. Kara describes the women at A.B. May as being determined, strong, and hard workers. “They are all different, nice, and make a great team.” Happy Women’s History Month! #WomensHistoryMonth

  • Happy World Plumbing Day & Women’s History Month! Meet Plumbing Technician, Amber! Amber came through our Plumbing Apprenticeship 6 years ago. Before she was a Plumbing Technician, she was a Program Director. When she decided to make a career change, she knew plumbing was a good industry and joined our apprenticeship program not long after. Her favorite part of the job is diagnosing customers’ issues around the home and giving them recommendations to help solve their problems. One piece of advice she would give to customers is to invest in their homes. “Your home is your biggest investment. Take time with the professionals in your home and take in their recommendations. Do what works best for you.” When she’s not working, she loves being a mom to her 11, 9, and 4-year-old babies. She also enjoys spending time on the water, boating, and swimming at different lakes. Her advice to women who are considering pursuing a career in the trades is to do it and keep going. “It’s going to be frustrating at times, and you might feel defeated, but keep at it, and the more knowledge you gain, the better, and more confident you’re going to become—the overall better you’ll be for yourself and others.”

  • As we celebrate the remarkable contributions of women, we recognize that A.B. May wouldn't be who we are without them. To kick off Women's History Month, we want to highlight one exceptional woman who helped build A.B. May alongside Bill Posladek. The “A” in our A.B. May, Aleda Posladek. Aleda Posladek, born in 1929 in Springfield, Illinois, was in many ways ahead of her time. She was a full-time mom, grandma, and entrepreneur who also liked to dance, play games, and go on adventures. After meeting Bill Posladek at Springfield High School, they became sweethearts and married in 1951. Together, they graduated from the University of Missouri, where Aleda studied at the School of Business. In 1959, they settled in Kansas City, where they incorporated A.B. May on January 1, 1960. Bill managed sales and operations, and Aleda handled accounting and office duties. While raising three sons during the 60s and 70s, she remained fully committed to the business, helping shape it for over 30 years. Happy Women’s History Month! #WomensHistoryMonth

  • A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and made our Holiday Happy Hour a memorable event! To kick off the holiday season, we hosted KC Real Estate Professionals so they could mingle with trade experts and see our A.B. May University training facility. We had a blast meeting and connecting with everyone! Real Estate Professionals: keep your eyes open for more events in 2024. 😊

  • Here’s your annual reminder on what you can and can’t put down your garbage disposal! As you whip up your Thanksgiving feast, here's a quick reminder on do's and don'ts. Safe to Dispose: Cooked meat, mashed potatoes, cooked veggies, and bread. Keep Away: Meat bones, potato skins (they're too thin!), fibrous veggies, and avoid sending rice or pasta down the drain. These can lead to clogs or even a breakdown. Wishing you a smooth and clog-free Thanksgiving prep!
