You came, we played! We’ve been so inspired by Amanda Weitman using 21/64 tools in her work with the San Quentin Rehabilitation Center (https://lnkd.in/e8Sp5v_3) to lead experiences of transformational change.  Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eQgRujSQ “Saturday evening, I was at San Quentin doing a values workshop with a group of men in a program called Awareness in Domestic Abuse. It was a group of 30 men who are participating in this 12-week program… It is so fun to let them know that for the next 2 hours they can drop everything they were thinking about regarding their character defects and focus only on their values which are all good. I cannot express in words the experience of them seeing good in themselves. Then they paired up and shared with each other what values they see in each other. Then we discussed what it was like to identify good in others. So amazing!” Thank you, Amanda, for your work to bring such a positive experience of humanity to your work at Wells Fargo as well as in your volunteer work at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center. We are so inspired by you. 21/64’s rolePLAY kit remains on sale through the end of July! https://lnkd.in/enhaNfg6

Clarifying one’s philanthropic goals can be an ongoing exercise, with time, experience, and smart counsel yielding ever finer clarity and specificity. For example, a donor might know they want to support the sciences, but then what? Where does one even begin? How does one navigate intrinsic complexities and find viable grant recipients? Even more, how does one know they’re making a difference?  That’s where Elizabeth Stolow Weiss shines. As Senior Director, Philanthropic Advising at the Science Philanthropy Alliance, Elizabeth understands the ins and outs of giving in this world. Not only does she advise and support philanthropists with the goal of increasing private funding for discovery science, she also understands how to ground this process with an exploration of identity and values. “The 21/64 Approach Training provided me with tools such as Picture Your Legacy and Motivational Values which help me work with individuals on drawing out what they hope to accomplish with their philanthropy. Sometimes the answer isn’t as straight forward as we think and tools like these allow us to have more meaningful conversations to eventually accomplish more impactful goals.” This past April, Elizabeth worked with The Prebys Foundation to launch a $7 million program designed to bring more diverse perspectives into the laboratory and yield ground-breaking medical research. The initiative seeks to address the critical gap in women and underrepresented groups in leading research positions by offering substantial funding to researchers for projects that might otherwise go unsupported. Thank you Elizabeth for sharing about your work with the 21/64 community! Click the attached pdf to read Elizabeth's full spotlight piece.

Unlocking Play this Summer! The work of family decision making can be serious business, yet it doesn’t always have to be. rolePlay is a tool to help you leverage an often overlooked, yet powerful, way to explore your role: play. “Play generates optimism, fosters empathy and promotes a sense of belonging and community.” - Bob Fagan Play is more than just fun and games. Neuroscience has proven that play relaxes our brain and leads to better problem solving. Holding something tangible, something you can touch and move sparks understanding: It can make even the most heady, conceptual ideas more accessible and manageable. We at 21/64 hope you can embrace play this summer, personally and professionally. 21/64’s rolePlay toolkit is on sale through July 31st (30ROLEPLAY2024), join us for the rolePLAY Tool Talk on July 16th!  https://lnkd.in/eKuHRJhr For more on the power of play… The National Institute for Play agrees with Newsweek that play – feeling playful – is seriously important for a healthy life. Each person feels playful in their own unique way. A few years back, Amanda Weitman, a private wealth advisor with Wells Fargo, led a group of philanthropists in a conversation about their time, talent, and ties. What was remarkable about this session was that the cohort of philanthropists consisted of incarcerated men at San Quentin State Prison (now called San Quentin Rehabilitation Center) on the edge of San Francisco Bay. In an article about this experience (https://lnkd.in/eRTCiK3k), Amanda wrote: “We talked about the time they [the incarcerated] spent putting on the walk-a-thon and going cell to cell asking their peers for donations. We also mentioned their creation of a public service announcement that will play on the institutional channel, so the incarcerated could learn about the walk-a-thon. ‘You know what that makes you, right?’ I say to them. Dead silence. ‘You are philanthropists. We are philanthropic peers.’” At 21/64 we talk about the broad applicability of our tools. While they are often used in settings where there is affluence and influence, Certified Advisors like Amanda are showing us just how powerful they can be in non-traditional environments. “I have introduced both the Motivational Values cards and Picture Your Legacy cards to the men with amazing outcomes. They learn so much about themselves and I learn a lot watching them learn.” When asked about the values that motivate Amanda in her work, she had this to say: “My thoughts and actions are guided first by honor, which to me means always doing what is nearest-to-right under the circumstances. The second value that guides me is compassion, which means being empathetic and then using that empathy to fuel action.” At Wells Fargo, Amanda works with a very different clientele, but she sees parallels in her role. “My purpose is to help people reach their full potential whether that is through educating, inspiring, guiding, encouraging, or modeling the way. The best part of my work is being able to bring philanthropic advising into my generalist role as a Wealth Advisor. My work entails protecting, growing, and transferring assets for high-net-worth families. Philanthropic advising fits perfectly into the conversation about transferring assets out of one’s estate. Thank you Amanda for being a change-maker and for broadening the reach of the 21/64 approach!

A master class for individuals who strive to be more effective at leading in-person and virtual group gatherings. During this two-day immersive program, participants are asked to look inward to see how innate strengths and vulnerabilities impact one’s own facilitation practice. Through live-action roleplay, attendees identify behaviors as they occur, practicing facilitation skills, receiving feedback from peers, and honing skills for use in the field.   This advanced course builds on the tools and methodologies learned in the Approach training, which is a prerequisite for attending the Art of Facilitation.
