It is important to be empathetic but assertive as well so that you dont come across as a controlling or a submissive boss both. One on one communication with the occasional(weekly)team gatherings is must. It is most important to celebrate the successes and also reiterate the learnings from every failure so that the team feels being a part of a family. Most important is to articulate the goal that the team is chasing so that they feel connected to achieving the goal.Big or small - every contribution helps and that should be communicated clearly to the team and reiterated every week as well.Last but not the least it is important for the manager to have a personal connect with each member of the team to have a bond.

regular communication yes but not randomly and not excessively. we are literally overwhelmed every day from every sort of Messages through too many channels. So I believe it is our job to create clarity around prioritization and a clear schedule to communicate according to the business cadence

Collaboration: I've always had a regional calendar with everyone's most important meeting populated on that calendar along with the biggest challenge of the meeting. Then I'd have the top person(s) in the region most familiar with the challenge on a pre-call the day before. It might be clinical, competitive, logistics, implementation, etc. This gets people collaborationg who may not regularly interact working synergistically. Then you have two or more people celebrating a win.

But in those settings you may find some of your team members quieter than the others, or not contributing as much.
