Premiere Pro can be a great editing tool for marketers to create engaging content! One of my friends uses it for his work and recommends it. Also, if you are a beginner, you can always learn from YT videos. It is simple to learn too.

I'm not sure that better editing is the answer. There are countless examples of viral videos that are not edited at all. Furthermore, overly edited videos can come off as non-authentic and turn people away. I'd recommend gaining a deeper understanding of your audience: demographics, interests, channels, pain points, online behavior, etc., and tailoring your content to resonate with them. Make sure to use well-crafted hooks (such as "[Problem your audience faces]? Today, we'll unlock the secret to...", "Think you're an expert at ...?", etc.) to get their attention and compelling narratives they can connect with emotionally to keep them watching.

Despite loving editing, I've always said that the "Idea >> editing" or anything else. If the idea is great, It relates with your audience then it will work. However, when you feel that the Idea isn't that strong and you need to create a strong hook that's when the editing can really help elevate the video with special, effects, transitions, and engaging captions. With short-form content being on the rise I think it's important that you learn fast pace editing to keep the user engaged till the end.

To edit your videos, you should find a tool that you are comfortable with and that suits your needs and budget. Nowadays, mobile applications like Capcut and VN Editor offer a wide range of editing options that might meet your requirements for reels/podcasts/shorts. However, there are some exceptions that I will explain shortly. If you're looking for a bit more advanced techniques like fine background removal, rotoscoping, and motion graphics then you should try After Effects. If you're looking at 3D, VFX, or CGI then you should look into Blender, Cinema 4d, and Maya. Pro tip: You can always learn these software on YouTube for free, there's not much need to buy a course for these.

Your tool is going to depend on what you need. Built in editors like TikTok are great and might be enough for social media but if you are editing a vlog/podcast you might want to look at something like Descript (highly recommend). Test out what works for you and your capacity/budget/skillset. If you are struggling to create engaging videos, don't get caught up on the editing - this is all about the content. Make sure you are focusing on topics and using formats your audience are interested in. If you don't know what they are interested in, take a step back and do some research, engage and ask them. A great starting point could be a 'what do you want to see from us' video.

Look at the most viral videos on Tiktok and Instagram Reels, often times they are lo-fi and edited right there on the platform. It might not be that you need a video editing tool, but you need to rethink your video content strategy.

TikTok! It is generally believed that native editing within TikTok, or any other platform, positively influences algorithmic exposure. Why? Adding captions natively in TikTok helps your video appear in search and also aids TikTok in better classifying your content. If TikTok can better understand your content, it can serve your video to the correct audience. With your videos being delivered to a more appropriate audience, you are more likely to get shares, likes, and views—also known as engagement. More engagement always equals more views.

Canva is the most intuitive and accessible version for people who have no knowledge in design. The pro version offers a very good image bank

For social media content, CapCut has been my go-to. Low cost, tons of features, and easy to use in real-time. I wouldn’t recommend it for heavy lifting projects, and although it has a desktop version, I find it heaps more useful as a mobile-only solution.

Capcut Pro is amazing for YouTube short and more! So many more options available then the free version. 10/10! I would suggest this to all marketers who are working within platforms that do not need professional editing such Adobe Premier Pro and so on. Be sure to try the free version first and then upgrade for the $12 per month once you are ready for the awesome upgrade!

Consuming lots of content helps understand diverse perspectives and editing styles that are currently in trend. One tip I would suggest is to follow some editing creators on Instagram, and YouTube. While you can take courses on Skillshare to learn video editing, I’ve found the best way is to just get in there and practice. Play with the tools. Try new things. Download a couple of different apps and try the features. Share and learn from people you know. It’s what I’ve found leads to the quickest improvement.

There are two ways to improve your editing skills fast. 1. YouTube University is an excellent resource for learning video editing. It's free, and countless tutorials are available to help you master the latest editing techniques. 2. By Doing! If you come across a video that you can't stop watching, try to learn how to recreate it. Once you've mastered the technique, share it with the world. Keep doing this every time you find something interesting, and you'll gradually develop a skill that no one can take away from you.

Learn by doing though as well as you'll quickly learn your own ways and styles of creating captivating content

The real measure of your video’s performance? Engagement, plain and simple. Forget all the fancy tools and tricks; if your video isn’t sparking conversation, it’s just noise. The goal shouldn’t be to get eyeballs; it’s about stirring up enough reasons to get your audience hitting that share button. So, before you dive into production, instead of focusing solely on editing software or hacks, ask yourself: Is this content share-worthy? Because ‘how to create’ may be easy or a function of money, but ‘what to create’ remains the million-dollar question. True engagement your video must earn; you can’t buy that. Depending on the desired objective, for a video the most important metrics are views and time viewed of the content. Few seconds of playback indicates the content is not attractive to my audience

Total views, unique viewers, watch time, and retention (the percentage of the video that was watched on average), likes, comments, shares, likes/dislikes ratio, click-through rate (CTR), and conversions (how many people signed up, bought your product, visited your website, etc.). You can also analyze the comments, if you have enough that is.

I'm not sure it comes down to editing but more understanding your customer and the platforms that you're using. Also, have people qualified and experienced in video creation doing the work, especially if you're a business. Marketers, videographers, graphic designers, content producers etc are not necessarily one and the same

Maybe it’s not just about the editing, it’s about the content as well. Posting more contextual content pieces or tailoring the content to suit the target audience is a far better approach. As we say, content is king.

I’ve been discussing this with one of the team this week and there’s a shift happening back from over produced edits, to a simple, much more authentic video. Some of the most effective videos are the simplest, shot on an iPhone, telling a really engaging story. Your audience is exhausted with video content so get to know them, find out what they value and deliver an authentic experience for them.
