What are some effective techniques for developing your clients' leadership presence?

The main thing for me is to be yourself! Do not try to be someone you are not. We are all human and we will make mistakes, so be open, honest and approachable. If not, people will see through you! If you join a new team, and others have more experience than you in that field, seek their advice. Do not be afraid to say, sorry, I do not know, but I will find out! Also makes them feel valued. Lead by example. We follow those who show us the way, not bosses who just bark orders. Be the first in the door, and last out Show what can be achieved with hard work ethics. Most family's have strength because they pull together in hard times. Create that within your organization. Also your employees have a life outside of work. Be accommodating

Our approach to empowering clients makes our relationships with clients unique and trustworthy. We help clients build awareness of their problems and identify their own solutions while providing the support they need to act. While providing all the answers to demonstrate our expertise and justify our services may be tempting, we believe greater value is achieved by highlighting the client's capabilities. By offering them a framework for analyzing their challenges and overcoming obstacles, we enable clients to take confident and informed actions.

The STAR model provides a structured framework for clients to articulate their experiences in a clear and compelling manner. By systematically addressing the Situation, Task, Action, and Result of their stories, clients can effectively showcase their skills and achievements.

In my opinion, develop clients' leadership by implementing 4 methods and I believe the first and third are most importance: 1- Communication Skills: Work with clients to improve their verbal and nonverbal communication skills. 2- Emotional Intelligence: Focus on developing clients' emotional intelligence (EQ) skills, including self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and social skills. 3- Networking and Relationship: Encourage clients to develop networking skills, including initiating conversations, building rapport, and fostering professional connections. 4- Continuous Learning and Development: Recommend reading materials, seminars, workshops, and coaching programs to deepen their understanding and skills.

Adicionalmente a todo lo señalado en el artículo personalmente considero que la mejor forma de fomentar el liderazgo es desde el autoconocimiento de uno mismo. Uno no puede ser buen líder por muchos cursos que realice si no conoce su personalidad, sus dones, sus valores, sus creencias, etc. Es desde ahí desde donde conociendo nuestras fortalezas y debilidades podemos influir en los demás a través del respecto, honestidad y humildad.

A leader who maintains eye contact during a conversation can demonstrate confidence and attentiveness. Open gestures can signal openness to ideas and feedback. Smiling and nodding can create a positive and engaging atmosphere. On the other hand, behaviors such as crossing arms or fidgeting can signal discomfort or disinterest. Role-playing, video feedback, and mirror exercises can be effective ways to practice and improve body language. Non-verbal communication can speak volumes about a leader’s presence.

Body language cues is essential for enhancing leadership presence. Instruct the clients on maintaining eye contact, using open gestures, smiling, and nodding to project confidence and approachability. Also, guide them to avoid negative cues like crossing arms, fidgeting, or avoiding eye contact. Employ role-playing, video feedback, or mirror exercises to help clients practice and refine their non-verbal communication skills.

Non-verbal communication plays a pivotal role in leadership presence. Teaching clients the nuances of body language, such as maintaining eye contact and using open gestures, can significantly enhance their ability to command attention and convey confidence.

One thing I found helpful is to teach your client to engage in any conversation that may arise, to ask questions and get clarity if they don't understand so that they can avoid to make mistakes unnecessarily. Body language is a key, it makes one to understand if the client is present or not.

More and more, my clients are opening up to the benefits of mindfulness practices. The first step to effective leadership is being more aware of individual team member strengths and weaknesses, but if you’re not self aware first of all then how can you be aware of those around you?

Adding mindfulness into your day can truly change the game, especially in stressful situations such as leadership meetings when emotions can become charged. Mindfulness is like having a secret anchor that keeps you steady, even when everything else is swirling. Just a few minutes of breathing deeply or sitting quietly can press pause on the world's noise, giving you a moment to choose your reactions instead of just being swept away by the emotional current. This isn't just about staying calm under fire; it's about sharpening your focus and making smarter choices. When you get into mindfulness, you're not just coping better; you're living more thoughtfully and leading with real clarity.

A leader practicing mindfulness can become more self-aware, manage stress effectively, and regulate emotions better. Simple exercises like focused breathing, meditation, or journaling can be incorporated into training sessions. Encouraging leaders to take mindful breaks, be aware of their sensations, or express gratitude in daily life can further reinforce these skills. Thus, mindfulness can be a powerful tool in developing a strong and impactful leadership presence.

In today's fast-paced business environment, mindfulness has emerged as a valuable tool for enhancing self-awareness and emotional intelligence. By incorporating mindfulness practices into coaching sessions, clients can develop a heightened sense of presence and resilience in their leadership roles.

Reflections on how the people feel about their day, work and other activities, bring the emotional satisfaction. Allowing the time to think and ponder for themselves is very essential in re-evaluating and assessing their strengths and weaknesses. The strategies of identifying how they can work best in the given situations, recharge themselves, will bring the best out of them.

Fostering empathy, encouraging critical thinking, and a growth mindset plays major in challenging limited potential. By actively listening and validating the client's perspective, one can identify and question the assumptions underlying their beliefs. Providing evidence, counterexamples, and encouragement helps to shift their perspective towards more empowering beliefs. Setting realistic goals and practicing positive affirmations integral components of the process. Daily affirmations have shifted my mindset into believing that even big growth is possible. Anyone can steer the ship, we ought to believe that we can by allowing our minds to think and accommodate big thoughts.

As a leader you are expected to show up ready to deal with situations clearly and confidently. Repeatedly being present in that way is taxing as we are all human first and foremost. A quick mindful hack to bring you back to the present moment in a more open, and thoughtful way is to take 3 deep cleansing breaths. Sneak into an office, etc and take a moment to close your eyes and take a deep breath through your nose, filling up your belly and then your chest, hold for 2 seconds and then let out your breath slowly and try to make it longer than your inhale. Do this 3 times and then open your eyes. In 30 seconds, reset your mind from a fight or flight response and be ready to listen, and respond with clarity and calm. Give it a try.

To become aware of your limiting beliefs is the first challenge. Most of us have a constant voice chattering away inside our head and a lot of what it says is negative. We’re programmed to survive so keeping ourselves out of potential harm used to be a vital survival skill but this inner voice doesn’t serve us very well in the modern world! Meditation and self awareness is the first step to recognizing that you even have such negative beliefs, once you became aware then it becomes a lot easier to deal with them!

A leader who identifies and questions their negative assumptions can replace them with more positive and realistic ones. This shift in mindset can boost their confidence, encourage risk-taking, and foster self-approval. Techniques such as coaching questions, reframing, or affirmations can be effective tools in this process. Thus, challenging limiting beliefs can be a transformative step in developing a strong and impactful leadership presence.

Many leaders grapple with self-doubt and limiting beliefs that hinder their potential for growth. By helping clients identify and challenge these negative thought patterns, coaches can empower them to adopt a more positive and adaptive mindset conducive to leadership success.

A big fan of the GROW model. Coaching with clients using this method really helps create understanding, then awareness then solutions which come from the client (not being told what to do, but solutionising themselves) and then actions which are aligned to the clients values and beliefs. That’s where there’s power, because for action and change to happen, you need real belief and commitment to change!

Most definitely Grow model assist many clients to make informed decisions and to be realistic. Once they put this model into practice, the chances of achieving their goals and objectives are higher.

Constructive feedback is a cornerstone of leadership development. For instance, using the sandwich method, a leader can receive a balanced mix of positive reinforcement and actionable suggestions. Similarly, the GROW model can provide a structured approach to feedback, helping leaders set clear goals, understand their current reality, explore options, and commit to a way forward. These techniques not only help leaders understand their strengths and areas for improvement but also empower them to take actionable steps towards enhancing their leadership presence.

Effective feedback is essential for leadership development. By offering constructive feedback using established methodologies such as the sandwich technique or the GROW model (Goal, Reality, Options, Way forward), coaches can guide clients towards continuous improvement and professional growth.

Charisma Confidence and Composure (Calmness) are three personality traits which make someone unforgettable (ex:Visualise Great Captain M.S.Dhoni) Of these, Composure is *THE* thing (Staying calm in challenging situations, handling problems with grace and practicing mindfulness). People learn this by observing their seniors and put it into practice when faced with challenges. As a senior. we must give freedom to our subordinates to choose their Leadership Presence. If they love fire, they will transform into gold, if not, becoming "Ash" is inevitable. Leadership Presence is all about the ability to inspire confidence in others. Make your presence felt.

Every leadership course or book will give you leadership characteristics but to help you give a client better leadership skills, much can be synthesised into some precious yet fundamental non negotiable. Here’s my take. Leadership is a combination of character (who you are) and competence (what you can do) A good leader cannot lead anything without a clear vision and that means it is widely known and understood. To be effective, a leader has to do 2 basics. First, be there. Second, listen. Above all else, good leaders are calm, especially in a crisis. Fear, as a tool to motivate, will see your colleagues rapidly polishing their CV’s and heading for the door asap.

Many leaders are eager to own a team's success. But true leaders will own their team's shortcomings as well. Leadership is the responsibility to not only guide a team, but to know when their guidance was not effective. Leader's must check their ego and be willing to always learn how to be better. True leadership is not a destination, it is a journey.

It is crucial to have a clear Personal Messaging Strategy to develop one's leadership presence. One can learn more about verbal and non-verbal communication, about one's core values, about how to be more mindful, etc. These are all very helpful steps. Yet, to develop one's leadership presence one must be able to communicate in ways that are congruent with one's personal values on a consistent basis. This can only be achieved through the conscious alignment between one's values and one's behaviours in very specific and observable ways by crafting a Personal Development Plan.
