What do you do if you're struggling to secure an automotive engineering internship?

En mi opinión, lo más valioso que puede ofrecer un recién egresado cuando quiere trabajar en una organización, es: 1. Deseo de aprender. El recién egresado debe entender que los conceptos aprendidos en las aulas son, la mayoría de las veces, muy alejados de la realidad en las organizaciones. Una actitud de apertura y de humildad para aprender será inmediatamente detectada y valorada por la organización. 2. Tiempo. Los recién egresados aún no han generado experiencia valiosa o generado sus propios logros. El tiempo que dediquen a aprender es directamente proporcional a la experiencia que ganarás y después podrán capitalizar. Es muy triste encontrar jóvenes que no quieren prestar un minuto de "su tiempo" para incrementar "su experiencia"

Based on my past experience in this field, I can say that we should approach this situation step by step: - Revise your resume and cover letter. - Tailor applications to each internship. - Expand your search to include smaller companies. - Network with professionals in the field. - Attend career fairs and networking events. - Seek guidance from professors or career counselors. - Consider volunteering or freelance projects. - Highlight relevant skills and experiences. - Follow up on applications. - Stay persistent and proactive in your search.

The key here is to differentiate yourself from competition. Most entry level levels will attract volumes of graduates that have almost identical profiles with the sole focus on the studies/degree etc. The biggest difference that you can make is choose your specialisation early on and back it up with specific reasons in your cover letter. The more clarity you bring - the higher the likelihood of an interview you will have.

In most of engineering schools, you are taught traditional concepts and there remains a gap in what industry looks for and what a fresh graduate has learnt in years of education. Put some effort in research and learn a new industry skill(s)!
