Look for sustainable alternatives like reclaimed wood, recycled materials, or low-impact options such as bamboo or cork. Additionally, consider the energy efficiency and durability of the materials to ensure your design is both innovative and sustainable. There are many software to evaluate the environmental impacts of the material. Searching for material with specific EPDs is necessary to make sure that the outcomes are correct and the efficiency of the alternative materials.

Research Sustainable Alternatives, Look for sustainable materials, furniture, and fixtures that can replace less eco-friendly options in your design. This could include using recycled materials, choosing products with low environmental impact certifications, or selecting items made from renewable resources.

First thought: Interior design should not be looked at in isolation. As human beings we experience the built environment as a continuum with no such artificial delineations. As such interior architecture is a more suitable nomenclature. Second thought: If we do look at it in isolation then the options get more limited and we fall in the domain of decoration! Final thought: If we look at sustainability in full meaning, that is human well being beyond the technicalities of VOC and other parameters, make creating interiors were humans thrive an art supported by engineering data also known as architecture, in this case for interior spaces!

Taking items 3 & 4 into account; Shift focus to sustainable materials; alternatives like bamboo for flooring or recycled glass for countertops. These reduce environmental impact & offer textures & finishes enhancing design. Japanese architecture uses a variety of natural materials such as wood, paper, clay & plants. Research, research and research. Gather as much information as possible on the subject and ask thought-provoking questions. Explore other possibilities available before making final decisions. Don't be carried away with the glamour of innovation. Sustainability is always king.

Consider biophilic design by incorporating elements of nature that not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also promotes sustainability. Integrate living walls, natural light, and sustainable materials to bring the outdoors inside.
