What do you do if your building design project fails and your professional reputation is at stake?

I totally agree with taking accountability on this type of situation. It may not be you that directly caused the design project to veer off planned/estimated expectations, but you are part of one company. Taking accountability means you acknowledge the issue and will evaluate a fix for it. Many times employees not at fault or some at fault will focus on who caused the project issues rather than taking ownership and moving forward to fix it. Passing the buck or pointing fingers gets you nowhere. I always tell my Designers you may not be the person that did this, but you were assigned to find out where things need to be fixed so it’s yours now. If that designer passes it off they are also part of the issues in the project.

É certo que cada projeto é único, como o seu dono, e necessita de adaptações. Por isso, é preciso um olha atento aos detalhes e as principais características que marcam o projeto. Em caso de equívocos é preciso revisar um, duas, quantas vezes for necessário para se chegar ao final do projeto, entregando o melhor escopo, mesmo não sendo o escopo inicial.

Admittedly learning from your design mishaps or faults can help grow your processes within your company. Most often there are many processes that have the same outcome in design. Being able to find the faults, admitting they did not work, and finding a process that works will not only help a project get back on track, but also help your business as a whole for the future.

Honesty and humility - nothing else matters. Rebuild the trust as a team. We stop making excuses - my experience is excuses don't satisfy anyone except the person delivering them. We don't explain the problem further, or add more evidence - a 9-year-old can describe what it looks like when a dam fails. That doesn't keep the water back. The client is relying on us for solutions. They are expecting us to be a team, so blame is unwarranted and useless. We are hired to solve a problem utilizing design - not more client resources. Communicate honestly that we see the problem - it is unchanged. Discuss solutions with the humility to say at times we don't know. We discover ideas, and we develop them quickly. Quickly to let bad ideas die.

Taking ownership, finding the issues that went wrong, and fixing them will help build trust with your client. I honestly feel that being up front and honest about the issues at hand will build a trust with your client that will last a lifetime. Most do not like to tell a client no that design will not work .. but telling them no the design won’t work that way, but here are some other options that can give you the desired design and results. I agree honesty and humility go so far in any situation.

I agree dwelling on it excessively.will not fix the problem. This is why ownership and accountability even when it wasn’t your mistake goes a long way. These attributes in a person will help the project design that went array move forward in a positive direction. It also will help you view the project with more attention to detail.
