How do you manage feedback from non-design colleagues that may not align with your design vision?

As designers, our mind often roams into depths of creativity others may not be able to breach into. And while roaming these depths of creativity, oftentimes it happens that we miss the trick of simplicity. The best designed editorial might have a typo mistake in the header, a logo may not look good in negative space! Listening to non-design colleagues not only helps understand the view of the general world, it also helps offer a third eye perspective to your design. The very difference between a good designer and a great one is who might be the better listener. At the end we need to realize that we design for the entire world and not for ourselves, so listening to the entire world, in one way or the other, helps enhance the final output.

A good way to do this is by structuring your sentence like so… “In the creative brief, your new product targets young kids which is why I went with a colorful logo and fun typography to appeal to the appropriate audience…” Lastly, filter and prioritize essential feedback and collaborate with teams, stakeholders, and clients to produce a design that is both effective and that your client approves.

Just listen to them. and try to explain them in a way they would understand. Its not necessary for them to understand you always but i guess the best you can do in that situation is listen to them and provide them with your vision in a simplest way.

I think teaching design principles and systems is really important and gives a lot of insight into the design world. One good way to do this is by showing how famous brands and agencies use these principles and how well it works for them.

It is necessary to lightly educate the non-designer colleagues about the basic principles of design and the reasons why I made placed a certain style. I can elaborate more on the 'why' part of the design decisions thus making it easier for them to understand my ideas and give clear advice.
