I would argue that, especially now, speed is key. The rate of technical change today far exceeds that of previous decades. Consider how quickly tools such as ChatGPT changed the world. Agile teams need to constantly iterate and refine their processes. As an example, successful teams will do sprint retrospectives and try new tools / processes every sprint to see if these changes help. Teams that follow the same processes / use the same tools sprint after sprint will rapidly fall behind. While change is painful, a wise person once said “If you dislike change, you're going to dislike irrelevance even more.”

Life long learn is a must to be current but the seed of it goes back to curiosity. Think about the your time during early childhood. Your environment was full of wonders and you were curious and you constantly learned. As we grow we go towards a need focussed learning but once we are a job we are so much in the job that need based learning does not push enough boundaries to get you learn anything beyond your immediate job. Constantly look around and be curious, how that works, how do others do it, how can I do it.

Understanding these systems' differences, advantages, and disadvantages and adapting them to your needs is better than strictly adhering to an absolute interpretation. The goal should be a flexible framework that fosters collaboration and communication, not rigidity.

One of the biggest pitfalls I see is embracing agile methodologies without understanding why. It's important to give teams small iterative development goals so they can really feel the benefit of agility. After a team delivers it's first 3 month MVP into production, they'll start to understand what it's all about.

I think the Agile Manifesto is far more important than the details of a specific method. How you should use the agile methods will depend greatly on the context in which you apply it. For instance, what is important in the implementation of Scrum in a global corporation will probably be a big waste in a small startup. In this, the Manifesto can be a guide.

There are a lot of misconceptions about what agile means. A lot of the modern implementations of agile are just that: opinionated implementations. I like to go back to the Agile Manifesto and understand its spirit. The implementations are just flavours that work for different organizations and personalities. Find whatever works best for you, and don’t be afraid to iterate and get user stories and feedback from your team. As long as you’re shipping quality products and iterating quickly, that’s all that matters. How you do it is just an implementation detail.

The absolute biggest challenge I've come across i terms of Agile, is the fact that it's often an all or nothing approach, from management to developers without exceptions. If agile is a grass root phenomenon, it'll fail. It has to be a management decision to go agile and to be an integrated part of the organisation's strategy. Also, the larger the organisation, the larger the number of conflicting agendas. In large organisations it requires strong and present leadership to stay on a true agile path. However, large organisations tend to lead through multiple layers of delegation of responsibility, opening up to diverging agendas. In all essence, experience has taught me that agile works best in smaller organisations with a flat hierarchy.

At any role, everyone has challenges to solve everyday. Problem solving with out of the box thinking will propel innovation. If you don't have any room to experiment, your value and the overall organizational value will decline everyday.

Find out for yourself if the hype is justified. Is humanity doomed or is our productivity about to increase by X. It’s an amazing time for the tech community as new tools, models,research papers, and prototypes are leading to a gold rush of creativity and ingenuity. Feedback means nothing if you do not act on it. You can use it as a tools to determine some metrics, sure, but you will underuse it. I suggest, for agility's sake, instead of sending a Customer Satisfaction form, gathering the data, and calling a day, have a real conversation with your clients, regularly. Alot of needs, wants & opinions will come up in a dinamic conversation, not only this, you will also get a quick glance at their state of mind. And your Feedback Form might come back with 5/5 'No complaints', but your client is very nervous for each release. Are you really a 5/5 ? Is anyone ? My point is, in terms of feedback, don't forget about the human side, it affects all else in the relationship.

Biggest mistake I see in the "Agility" space is using retrospective meetings as "root cause analysis" meetings for specific tickets as opposed to genuinely seeing if your processes are improving things or not. You have to measure whether things are getting better or worse and discard that which isn't working for the team regardless of what some article says.

Some things I've found that help: - Communication - open communication between the team AND stakeholders is a key strength of agile. - Work up and down the value chain - organization changes can bring new perspectives in, and sometimes those perspectives aren't in favor of agile. Maybe they had a bad experience in the past, but in any case you need to make sure they're included in the communication and you're selling the value of agility. - Retrospectives - these are the most important ceremonies in agile. There's no one-way to do agile - be ready to adjust their process as the business and your proficiency with agile changes.

It is our responsibility to our clients to continuously seek the ‘best’ approach, rather than settling for our ‘current’ way, and to remain impartial to our own biases.

It is not pushing back against the strategic vision of an organization. It is, however being open to HOW the organization moves/adapts to reach its strategic goals. Rarely does the original path to achieve a lofty goal, result in success without reassessing, finetuning, and feedback along the way. It is important to remain open minded but being aware of constraints that every business is under (Time, People, and Money). Trends are continuously changing- we must be aware and adapt.

Embrace change and be open to new ideas, processes and ways of working. Stay flexible in your approach to problem-solving and project management. Requirements evolution, team dynamics, technology changes, methodology changes and market trends/shifts can also result in changes to the software engineering process and a sudden change could lead to uncertainty. One of the strongest certainties in software engineering is CHANGE. Not only technical stacks change, but most importantly businesses do it. Embracing that fact and preparing all stakeholders and technical teams to collaborate and work with constant change mindset is key. The ability to plan and deliver only what is needed right now, not trying to much to predict the future, but at the same time being open and prepared for small corrections during the course helps fight uncertainty.

You can't do it all yourself. Collaborating with others enables you to pick up new approaches and learn from others' mistakes. Contributing to Open-Source takes it even further. You get to learn from a much larger, diverse community that uses a software in ways a single person cannot even imagine.

This is much more easily achieved when the individuals share a collaborative attitude and are willing to communicate honestly, kindly and constantly.

One of my favourite aspects of agility is the 'always improving' mindset and 'feedback culture'. We don't expect perfection from the outset, but we can strive to always be improving, learning and growing. I encourage everyone to invite feedback, be open to constructive criticism, and of course for balance, celebrate successes whether big or small. It is also important to learn how to provide feedback in a way that the receiver will be receptive to it. Everyone can benefit from learning diverse communication strategies to achieve this.

Collaboration is key! Diagrams and visual tools are a good way to collaborate and share insights. It is important to use and change these consistently during the work. These should be part of an overall collaborative process. One can, for instance, do a detailed design of parts of a problem and get feedback using a diagram like a sequence diagram before implementing the solution. Changes are added back into the diagram, coding starts, and the diagram is updated to reflect the inevitable changes that come with the implementation.

Learn the fundamentals. Technology changes quickly, but build on a set of fundamental principles that don't really change, or don't change quickly. For example, don't just learn React or Vue - understand how the DOM works. Don't just learn Dotnet Core or NodeJS - learn how the communication works between a browser and the web server. Want to learn SQL? Spend a bit of time learning about database normalisation. Understanding the fundamentals will help you be more agile as you will be able to easier see and apply the fundamentals as the technology landscape keeps changing.

This article is pretty much stating the obvious. Knowledge in the software industry always deteriorated quickly. Or do you still remember Smalltalk? The article asks, how you can STAY agile in this environment. I would argue that if you ARE agile (contrary to "doing" Agile), this is not an issue for you. Everything stated in this article is stuff you do already, every single day. You came so far BECAUSE you constantly learn, communicate and work in short feedback loops. Just keep going.

Understand why we do things and what purpose the technology serves. The technology is just a means but it could serve great purpose. If you are working in a company that can bring positive changes to millions of people, cure diseases etc. It will be a great motivator and privilege to keep learning and make the product better as it has huge impact.

Mathematics, algorithm, user experience and interface design, testing, and the know-hows of the business field you are working on, such as finance, telecommunication, manufacturing, agriculture, those will not change as quick as software development tools but are essential to your projects and career success.
