How can you make sure you're ready for a promotion?

In my experience a few key things you need to come in understanding. 1. Where am I primed to excel in this role based on past experience, where can you provide immediate value for your new team and elevate the work 2. Where you will be challenged, this is where the role might be taking you out of comfort zone, and where you need to focus on training and learning from your colleagues.

To ensure you're ready for a promotion, consider the following steps: 1. Demonstrate a track record of high performance in your current role. 2. Actively seek feedback from your manager, colleagues, and other stakeholders and improve to to show your commitment to professional growth. 3. Look for opportunities to go above and beyond your current job responsibilities. 4. Invest in continuous learning and skill development relevant to the desired position. 5. Cultivate strong working relationships with colleagues, managers, and influential individuals within the organization. 6. Gain a clear understanding of the expectations and requirements for the desired position.

Look at mentors, leaders, and other colleagues who have performed the new role well in the past. Ask yourself, what were their top skills and strengths, and be honest with yourself - do you have similar skills & strengths? I would also advise - imagine your daily routine in this new role - and can you imagine yourself performing those responsibilities. Just because we want a promotion - doesn't always mean it's going to be a great fit. But if you can visually see yourself performing those responsibilities and enjoying them - then it could be a great next step in your career path.

Portfolio is often a trap for non creative/ coding folks. They think because most of their work is not tangible, they cant have a portfolio. However, folks who work in CS, Client Leadership, Strategy, etc can use LinkedIn, Blog Articles, and other social media platforms to share their expertise, their unique points of view, and the experiences they are driving with their clientele. A plethora of great stories and content goes a long way in earning trust and building a strong reputation.
