How can you keep your team motivated and engaged?

One of the ways to keep your team motivated is to set goals effectively. A lack of goals can cause a lack of vision and thus a lack of motivation. So goals are vital. The goals should obviously be relevant to the progress of the organization as well as the team member. Plus, the goals should have a deadline so that the team members would know by when they should complete tasks. Also, the goals should be measurable so that the company as well as the team members can measure their progress. Furthermore, the goals should be specific and not vague so that the team members will know what is expected of them and the company will also know what to expect. Lastly, the goals should be realistic and achievable.

One thing I have found incredibly helpful in aligning the team's goals with the project's objectives or milestones is emphasizing the connection between their individual objectives and the overarching project goals. Also, recognition should be given publicly and sincerely. Next, feedback is tricky, feedback should be given in a way so that the employee does not feel dejected, feedback should include both praise and areas of improvement because both are important. The areas of improvement let the employee know where they are lacking and the praise lets the employee know about what they are doing right.

Promote a sense of transparency and unity among team members. Regular 1:1 meeting, team huddles, and feedback sessions create an environment where team members feel heard and valued. Actively seeking input and addressing concerns promptly is vital in maintaining a positive team dynamic.

In the world of remote teams, it is very critical to have collaboration between team members and cross teams as well. Team huddles, 1:1 are the ways we have used over the years however open sessions without agenda and fun sessions are also a good way to make your team members closer.

Providing autonomy and trusting your team is one of the best motivators in my opinion. Micro management, and asking for constant updates from the team members is a big turn off and can make top performers look for other opportunities. The best teams I have worked with are those that have a high trust built in, and function autonomously. This increases a sense of ownership among all the team members and is a win-win situation for the individual, team, and the company. Each person feels a sense of responsibility and ownership towards the product. This ensures great quality and keeps the team in high spirits.

Likewise, people would work best on a project if they thought it was theirs instead of someone else's.
