Two very important points of guidance: Celebrate successes AND failures: When you can celebrate mistakes or failures through the learning gleaned, you will be nurturing a culture of innovation Amc agility. Don’t shy away from helping to normalize making mistakes to elevate the learning gleaned. Ask how they like to be appreciated: It’s incredible to carry the intention of appreciation, but if you are appreciating in a way that’s not best received by an individual/team, the impact will be incongruent with your good intentions. So survey, as the question: Tell me about a time you felt incredibly appreciated. Then let the response to guide.

Both individual & team efforts & results must be appreciated equally as both stand out for the Org performance A formal Reward & Recognition program on a podium so that we all are learning from the best practices. Very often a good idea gets a better result, sharing success story does inspire others to replicate the same.

One tip: include a section called "Team Awards" in your all-staff meeting, and create a space for any employee to give a "Team award" to any other employee. This distributes the effort of recognizing great work. A fun way to do this is to have the award include a GIF, which inevitably adds personalized humor or sincerity, and keeps things lighthearted and entertaining.

Most people enjoy their team getting the love and appreciation for a job well done. What’s more impactful? Publicly acknowledging the individual actions of those on the team who made the success possible. When we look at team accomplishments, individual ones can get overlooked. Make a conscious effort to recognize those individual contributions.

Be a human! Let them see your authentic excitement for how well they have done. While celebrating the team is important, so are personal touch points within your team. Don’t forget to celebrate individuals personally in the ways that are meaningful to them (not you).

It's always fun to be recognized months later for exemplary performance. (Insert the eye roll here.) A lot can happen in months. It can affect a team's morale if it takes a long time. After all, your team is comprised of humans. The recognition must be quick. I was taught always to praise people in public, but some don't like that. Know your team and what's the best way to motivate them. Even if they don't like it, at least give public praise so others know about their excellent work.

Absolutely! It's super important to seize the moment and celebrate success when the positive energy is still buzzing, and everyone's feeling pumped. If you wait too long, the celebration loses its significance and won't serve as motivation for future achievements. Personally, I always make sure to congratulate my team right away when they reach a goal or overcome a challenge set by our top management. And to celebrate, I usually take them out for a nice lunch or dinner.

Not only is celebrating your team important but being timely with it is instrumental in keeping morale high. We are often so stuck in the 'hamster wheel' especially in a project-based setup, and these little pauses really help to acknowledge the project milestones and allow your team a mini breather before they have to dive back in and build momentum towards the next project piece. I have always been a maxtrix project manager. This means I am building my teams from different departments within the company. Early on, I made sure that had public award ceremonies for the individual team members of my successful projects. These team members were not used to receiving awards, either publicly, or privately. The end result was prior team member volunteering to be on my subsequent projects. Staffing your teams with prior teammates, shortens the learning curve and guarantees future success!

During the pandemic and just before Christmas, when we were all working from home, we had a virtual team day to celebrate our achievements One member of the team delivered a little bag to the door of each participant. Within the bag we found a little gift box with a hand written note giving each of us feedback on our unique contribution to the success of the team. We opened them and read them out - such a great moment of recognition and celebration. Of course, celebrations should not only be at the end of the year or on a major project completion. Don´t forget to celebrate small success along the way.

Celebrate the inputs as much as the outputs. Outputs tend to be easier to celebrate, whereas inputs are often the precursor as well as more attainable for other team members. Also, inputs are not always an area where individuals can get feedback on their work. They expect praise and celebration on the output, but appreciate and recommit themselves to great work when their inputs are also recognized.

One of the best managers I’ve ever had asked me on day one of employment how *I* feel celebrated/appreciated. We have all heard of love languages, and I believe there is an equivalent in the workplace. Some individuals feel celebrated with a staff bonding activity, some love getting a huge shout out, some enjoy getting some new company merch. True leaders see employees as individuals, and everyone is different when it comes to how they feel special. Regardless of how you celebrate someone, it’s impactful when leaders celebrate their employees - other employees see that recognition, and it fosters motivation and moves employees to recognize each others’ accomplishments as well.

I've come to learn that "celebration" comes from a place of gratitude and joy. Anyone can say "thank you" - but it's the how / when / why / to whom it's said that make all the difference. Valuing those on your team - more than just their output, but as human beings - is a big part of unlocking that gratitude and joy for those around you. It build true relationship and connection. When they win, no matter how big or small, you truly feel like that's YOUR win too. Last point is, being grateful for and joyful in the journey is a big part of celebration. It's tempting to try and "reserve" celebration until you reach the "finish line." But plot twist: that line does NOT exist. If you don't embrace the journey, you won't know when to celebrate.

Take team preferences into account - some may appreciate gift cards vs. others would value extra time off. Keep perspective - Celebrate the big and small wins frequently, not just once a year. As a marketing agency owner who leads a team that mostly works remotely sometimes it can be a challenge to communicate and make sure everyone feels appreciated, heard, and SEEN! I have weekly check in calls with each team member where I give them one on one recognition and then monthly team meetings where I can share all the contributions everyone is making.
