This assumes we can always decide when to transition and say no if we're not ready. But that's not always possible in real life. Your ability to handle change well depends on how you deal with the challenges that come with it. To assess your "readiness" think about what worries you if this transition, whether you want it or not, happens. How prepared are you to overcome those concerns?

The most crucial part of this step is to ensure you delegate tasks and responsibilities. Avoid micromanaging and trust your team to deliver results while providing support and guidance as needed. Micro-management is a trip to failure!

Avoid the 'well, it always used to work that way' mentality. The job market is a wild and evolving place. One of the stumbling blocks I see with people transitioning into a new role after serving a long time as an executive, or even those moving into a senior leadership role from say Management or Director is that they are so comfy in what they did before to get where they are they forget it is different among executive leadership. Things change all the time. Developing out a game plan strategy is the key to career growth. In my experience, generally SLOW DOWN. Take the time up front to really get to know your team. Don't make any unnecessary immediate changes. Assess and evaluate. I have seen a new leader come in and destroy trust because of changes he made in his days and then never be able to recover and gain the trust of his team. Detrimental to him and the team and the company.

Most of the time, you will start from levels much below current positions, however understand the importance and vitality. Remember, growth is geometric once learning is potent, albeit linear.

A common bias is to think that being an expert in the technical field will makes us expert at management or leading others. Working with medical teams showed to me that excellent doctors or nurses don't make excellent managers, if they don't get back to this growing and learning mindset. I think that this is the most important when transiting from one place to another, especially for career evolution : getting back to the learning process and enjoying discovering new things with openness, creativity and humility

Transition, as we all know, will happen and needs to happen in any thriving career and relationship. What's important to be conscious about and proactively work on is to adapt/flex yourself. Like a good batter in cricket, you need to play according to the context. Learn to read the context better (match awareness as it's called in cricket - the bowler, the wicket, the weather, the scoreboard, the team aspiration etc.) and yourself better (my patterns, compulsions, preferences, defaults, habits etc.).
