As with most things you start with the basics. And in my case, I started out with reference books and homemade drones and gas turbines. I find that in fields like aerospace design being in the field of unmanned aerial systems helps when trying to test out new designs on a bigger scale. In my opinion, I think most companies today have left their design roots in the past. This is especially damning for young engineers just breaking into the industry and instead you're stuck doing spreadsheets. My point is, if we're not careful. We end up losing a lot of talent. Imagination is what's wanted not necessarily efficiency.

If you can, I would advocate for doing projects outside of your workplace for fun. Find friends to build projects with, this way you'll experience what it's like to work with other people toward a singular goal. " Communicate to operate" If there is a problem voice it and let the other members of your team know, don't wait. If you're already on the third iteration of a design and there's a flaw, that's time and money wasted. Your 3 main challenges in engineering will be communication, not making your designs too complicated and team friction. Keep it simple.

My advice here is to go invest in a 3d printer. Sharpen your skills in auto CAD. Learn to create prototypes. If you're too broke get some graphpaper and draft. If you can't afford a 3D printer use cardboard boxes and a box cutter/ exacto knife. I know hand calculations don't sound all that fun but its still a useful skill to have. Most of my designs I have in auto CAD I drafted first. I myself use the Cardboard method to get good at fabricating airfoils for flying wings/missiles/gliders etc. Mind you. This method doesn't last unless you want it to. But it does teach you the skills you need to know.

Predicting the future need and try to maximise self ability to match it. Nevertheless the technological advancement, nourishing individual skill and to be on the edge of scientific frontiers could help to achieve the goals.
