From my perspective, virtual meetings and tools have been a tremendous asset for teams working remotely. They have allowed us to stay connected and productive despite the physical distance. However, there are still significant challenges. Many individuals don't turn on their cameras, come unprepared for calls, and sometimes make excuses about internet issues to avoid participation or experience mid-call drops. These issues highlight the lack of human presence that can be felt during virtual interactions. Despite these challenges, post-pandemic, virtual meetings have undeniably become a crucial tool for remote teams.

Mantener reuniones periódicas, con tiempos y duración establecidos son una de las piedras angulares para que los equipos de trabajo sean exitosos. Después de la pandemia, quedó instaurada esta forma de trabajar. Pero, en mi experiencia, encontré que hay un gran obstáculo que quedó muy enquistado en muchos usuarios y es que no prenden las cámaras de video. Esto obstacuiza muchísimo la comunicación, porque la gestualidad brinda una información muy valiosa que se pierde sin la cámara. En mis entrenamientos de coaching de equipos insisto mucho en este tema porque sé la importancia que tiene la comunicación asertiva en los resultados que se obtienen.

Regular weekly group check-ins and being open to daily feedback are key to enhancing efficiency remotely. However, it’s essential to balance a playful, positive atmosphere with assertiveness when necessary. This approach ensures team morale remains high while maintaining productivity and accountability. By fostering open communication, encouraging feedback, and setting clear expectations, you can create a cohesive and efficient remote team.

When coaching remote teams and their leaders, we discuss the different ways that they can effectively collaborate especially in the new environment of remote work. Build team norms on what applications will be utilized by the team and for what purpose. Applications such as Microsoft Teams or Slack can be used for more immediate questions that need to be addressed with urgency while Zoom can be a great way to hold team meetings. Understand which pieces of technology the team will utilize and for what purpose so there is clarity, intention, and ownership on how to communicate together as a high performing team.

Todos nosotros tenemos una parte pública que todos conocemos, pero también hay una parte ciego que necesitamos de la mirada de otro para poder verla. Un coach profesional bien entrenado sabe en qué momento brindar retroalimentación y cómo hacerlo, lo que me atrevo a decir que es un verdadero arte, porque requiere tener una competencia muy desarrollada que es la escucha profunda, la que implica decir lo que el cliente dice, pero principalmente lo que no dice.
