Here's how you can effectively set and achieve goals as an executive in Entrepreneurship.

This was a big struggle for me for a while. My yearly goal was usually to survive the year. It wasn't until the company had more stability that I could think longer term. Ultimaely you need to "begin with the end in mind", by having a sense of your organization and overall direction. This can certainly change, but without a sense of your values and overall direction you won't be able to effectively goal set.

Clearly define what you want to achieve. This involves setting specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. Understanding your vision and mission can help in aligning your goals with the overall strategy of your business.

First, set a clear vision for your company and make sure every employee understands it. This way, everyone can work towards the same goal. Then, break down that vision into smaller, manageable goals. Set deadlines a few days ahead of the actual due dates to account for any unexpected issues. When everyone knows the company’s vision, they'll understand how each task contributes to achieving it.

This can be done daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly, etc. I personally set main goals and check in daily to see what I did to make progress. That helps me stay on top of my goals and keep making progress every day.

Setting goals is great. Having a system that leads to hitting them, is a winning strategy. I loved Jon Cleary's "Atomic Habits" and adopted his idea of taking on an "identity" to achieve objectives. Therefore my goal is not "to do" but "to be" a person that gets it done. Seeing myself as someone who has already achieved what I want, I reverse engineer steps that led me to that position and act accordingly. Example - I am a super healthy, wise, energetic leader (identity) - therefore I exercise, read and make great decisions every day (what I do - my action steps).
