I've been writing professionally since 1982. I've always been very driven as a person. A Gemini, who thrives on variety in life & in my careers & especially my writing. I've crafted words for magazines, newspapers, websites, online content & since 2012, as an author in numerous genres. I knew when I was seven years old, I wanted to be a writer. That passion & desire has never left me & never will. You must have a fire deep within you, to need to express yourself a love of words & language. There will be rejections & setbacks, that's life, but use those to strengthen your resolve to write on & on!

I think this works just well. And when I say that, I mean that it works for me too. To understand your purpose, you must first understand yourself and consider the numerous factors around you. This can only be effectively done with deep meditation and reflection. In your spare time, have an intense discussion with yourself and know why you're doing what you're doing. If you are an academician (in any field), writing about your research, thoughts, work, etc., is more important than anything else. That's exactly what should help you discover your purpose in writing. Imagine this! You are doing wonderful work in your field, but nobody knows because you don't write about it. Then, don't you think that connecting with people from the same or different fields is both essential and helpful? If you ask me, I will say, YES it is very important!

Not everyday is going to be a good day! There are days when we feel so dried out and no topics comes to our mind. But then there are days when a lot of topics comes to our mind from nowhere. During those times, take a notepad and weite down everything you can. Carry a notepad everywhere. I even used to write my ideas on a tissue paper and write poetry on back of food cover. If you are passionate about something, you will find a way yo pursue it no matter what.

A true writer lives to write, and writes to live. A true writer loves what she does and does what she loves. She writes not only for a living, but also for pleasure, since when she is at work, she is also at play. More significantly, she earns not only a living from writing, but also a life. She is passionate. She is focused. She is committed. She is consistent. She has found meaning and purpose as a writer. To sustain that meaning and purpose, all she need do is reconnect with her passion on a regularly regular basis.

Whether it's captivating a growing audience, being featured in renowned publications, or igniting discussions that lead to action, your goals are the compass that guides your creative voyage. They should be a source of inspiration, pushing you to explore new horizons and expand your skills. As your career flourishes, your goals will too, adapting to the ever-changing landscape of your professional growth. Firstly, we have to define the difference between a goal; a final result, and objectives; the actual steps needed to reach that goal. Setting SMART objectives (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timed) will increase your odds of reaching your final goal. When I started writing in 2015, I set an objective of writing one article per week on LinkedIn. When I wrote my first novel in 2018, it was for NaNoWriMo, a yearly challenge to write a 50000 word novel in the 30 days of November. The first two weeks were holidays, and I finished in 29 days with 52500 words. In 2020 I started writing short stories and did so with a weekly competition on reedsy. I wrote one prompted story a week for a year. The final goal was to become a writer.

I meet many people who say that they write poems and stories but them to themselves. They just could not bring themselves to share their work. How are they supposed to grow their writing skills if they don't share and learn what they have and what they lack? Sharing your work means you are courageous enough to share your work, want to go ahead in your writing career, and are ready to take feedback and apply it to your drafts.

They say that creative endeavors are about “the journey and not the destination” and I agree. If you don’t enjoy writing, and only enjoying “having written,” then I think you’re robbing yourself of the pleasure of getting lost inside the world of your art. To me, finishing the script and having a great piece of material is icing on the cake.

You might have heard several famous writers saying they encountered so and so challenges which eventually helped them grow. Well, it is 100 % true. Challenges are the opportunities. I believe writers (or any professional) when facing the deepest challenges grow. They get to prepare solid ground for themselves. As you pass one challenge after the other you transform bit by bit and that's what being a writer is all about.

Writing can be intimidating because of how many challenges it poses; it takes a great deal of self-discipline to face and overcome them. The best thing to do is to simply work your way through the obstacles. Understand that rejection will be inevitable at times, but success still awaits. Try exercises to help you generate new writing ideas, and be open to learn and ask others for advice. Once you manage to put these challenges behind you, you'll know what to do if they arise again. Knowing how to hone your skills and use your resources is the key to building yourself into an unstoppable writer.

Never stop learning and the best way for a writer to learn is to Read. Keep reading, read everything, not just on a single topic. This will give you a wider perspective and help expand your horizons

Join professional writer organizations! There are many. I have been involved with the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and Society of American Travel Writers, as examples. These are usually paid memberships and provide: - Opportunities for continued learning - Networking and industry contacts - First dibs at job opportunities - Media passes - Live events and conferences And more. It helps to be part of the broader community in your industry.

Here are five tips to help writers improve themselves from my experiences and feedbacks from clients: 1. Cultivate a daily writing practice. Even 15-30 minutes per day of freewriting or journaling can make a difference. 2. Read voraciously across genres. Immersing yourself in quality writing expands your vocabulary, exposes you to new styles. 3. Seek honest feedback and embrace criticism. Join a writers' group or find a mentor willing to provide constructive critiques. 4. Continuously educate yourself through classes, workshops or books on craft. Always strive to hone your abilities. Mastering grammar, story structure or dialogue can elevate your work. 5. Be fearless in exploring new formats and genres.

Be patient. Purpose is something new discover, not something that you construct. Some lucky folks find it early. For others, it can take a long time. Some folks change their idea of their purpose as they grow. Reflection and introspection certainly help, but most of the time you stumble on your purpose.

If you have natural expressiveness and curiosity, an aptitude for explaining things, a creative mind, a restless feeling that you have a responsibility to make the world a better place, the arrogance to think you're the only person capable of telling a particular story and the humility to learn, you will have a writing journey that's fulfilling for you and meaningful for readers.
