So true. Many do not know what they don't know. And in this spectrum is not knowing which learning style works for them. That is the fun and excitement creating a multimedia capability for the varied students.

Understanding the needs of the learner is key. What has been my experience though, is that often learners do not always know what they don’t know. Yes learn about your learner, but realize you may need to go further than a survey if what they think they want/need to learn. Understanding the needs of a learner from a landscape perspective can often allow the creation of more targeted and effective digital learning materials.

This happened with one of my colleagues. They were set to launch a digital training program with video tutorials but recalled a past project where this approach failed due to low engagement. To avoid this, they conducted surveys and interviews to understand employees' learning preferences. The results were clear: some preferred interactive content, others wanted hands-on simulations, and visual learners asked for more infographics. With these insights, they revamped the training to include diverse content types. Participation and feedback improved significantly, proving that tailored training is far more effective. Remember to include the needs of your nonnuerorypical learners. Making sure accessibility guidelines are met will help every learner. I also find it helpful for learners to be able to move rapidly through material they know as well as go back to review as needed.
