When you encounter failure, see it as a chance to learn. Rather than fixating on the disappointment, analyze the situation to understand what went wrong and why. This reflective approach allows you to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to avoid similar pitfalls in the future. By embracing a learning mindset, you turn setbacks into lessons, which is a fundamental step in building resilience and confidence.

The only true failure giving up without learning anything. Challenges, hardship, struggles, and even defeats all represent opportunities for growth and development. The more we focus on our experiences as a journey with peaks and valleys the better we can appreciate the lessons we learn on all parts of the path.

The intimate peer structure encourages vulnerability in surfacing development areas. The diverse makeup exposes women to fresh perspectives beyond their own blind spots. And the structured curriculum focuses on self-discovery over prescriptive teaching. Those elements create the psychological safety and expansive worldview needed to truly learn, unlearn, and evolve as authentic leaders.

It is so important to ask these questions when you encounter a failure - what worked, what didn't work, and what will I do differently the next time I encounter a similar situation. It is crucial to ask these questions in order to continue the learning about a situation and the role you played in the failure. Failure is not about the person, it's about the behaviors demonstrated that resulted in the situation not going in the direction that was anticipated. Failure is an important part of the learning process.

Learn from it. Grow from it. Be resident. If you fail at something, shake the dust off, learn from it, and move on. God has a plan. Your mindset towards setbacks will always be an indicator of what how resilient you are towards change and personal growth.

Constructive feedback is invaluable when it comes to overcoming failure. Reach out to mentors, peers, or anyone you trust to provide honest insights into your performance. Their perspectives can shed light on aspects you may have overlooked and offer guidance on how to move forward more effectively. Remember, feedback is not a critique of your worth but a tool for growth.

Setting realistic, achievable goals after a setback provides direction and motivation. Break down your overarching objectives into smaller, manageable tasks, and celebrate each milestone you accomplish. This process not only helps maintain focus but also builds momentum and confidence as you witness your own progress.

One things I've found helpful is categorizing goals by priority, like using a priority matrix. Quick wins goals Major project goals Fill in goals Thankless goals Incrementally you build your confidence and determination to achieve goals breaking them down. Some goals may take more time to achieve which could discourage you along the way. Some goals may be achieved quicker impact you with more momentum to tackle the bigger goals. Just keep going and don't give up. #LeadershipMindset
Surrounding yourself with a supportive network can significantly bolster your resilience. Whether it's friends, family, or colleagues, having people who believe in you and encourage you through tough times can make all the difference. Lean on this support system when you're feeling discouraged, and allow their positivity to reinforce your determination to succeed.

Taking care of your physical and mental well-being is crucial for maintaining confidence and resilience. Ensure you're getting enough rest, eating well, exercising, and engaging in activities that bring you joy. A healthy body and mind provide the energy and clarity needed to tackle challenges and bounce back from failure with vigor.

This is your reminder to remove yourself from toxic environments (including people, places, and things) that manifest as physical symptoms of pain. Selfcare is a PRIORITY! I definitely agree that "ensuring you're getting enough rest, eating well, exercising, and engaging in activities that bring you joy" is essential for successful people. This has been a life lesson in my career for sure.

Finally, practice positive self-reflection. Acknowledge your strengths and past successes to remind yourself of your capabilities. By focusing on your positive attributes and achievements, you cultivate a sense of self-assurance that can withstand the trials of failure. This positive reinforcement is key to maintaining confidence and pushing forward.

One thing that I've experienced and have seen others experience is self doubt and questioning of value. When experiencing failure, not all of it needs to be "owned". Own the outcome but hone in on strengths, wins, and growth. A good practice is to write down your accomplishments. Don't wait to be recognized to celebrate your wins. Failure builds muscle when you can overcome it with stronger self worth.
-
Remember, when we experience "failures" it's usually because: A) the opportunity wasn't meant for us in this season, B) we weren't as prepared as we thought we were, C) the team or people involved were not a great match, D) we needed to build character, E) a part of the process was not equitable/fair, productive etc. I can list many more. The point is that, "facing failure" is less about facing it and more about understanding the lesson that we can learn from the failure that we can use to better prepare for the next opportunity. Once we have a greater understanding of why the failure happened we can be empowered to make the necessary changes for our future.

Build resilience outside of a work environment. **Choose** to do something hard; ideally with a physical component (anything from playing chess, painting a picture to mountaineering). Conditioning your brain and body's response to intentional challenges better prepares you for unexpected or uninvited problems or situations. You will have bolstered your body's stress response. When these other situations arise, your cortisol levels won't spike the same way. You won't go into fight or flight. You will be able to lead others through the challenge.

Failure is part of a cycle. If you want to succeed, you have to push boundaries, which means you are going to fail sometimes. It is best to keep a story (or stories) in your mind regarding how you failed in the past and ultimately triumphed later on. It will remind you that "this too shall pass" while giving you the strength to lean into the uncomfortable possibility of future failure as you strive for something better next time.
