One of the easiest ways to keep current is to start a Google Alert for whatever you are interested in and you will get leads as to what is current in that area. I have Google Alerts for Design and AI, Design Research, Design, and other rather generic keywords. You can then pick and choose where to spend your time (and money) keeping your skills updated.

As a product designer, there are several ways to keep your skills sharp and relevant. Always open mind is a key to learn from others. make a group social media to always update from others. don't think that i am is the best, it will be damage your self.

The best way I found very effective is to be actively involved in a community, seek feedback, stay inspired, collaborate with others, and regularly support others.

Starting a small side hustle helps keep your design skills sharp because it’s actionable deliverables that are evaluated by your paying customers, so you get immediate feedback and/or critique. Also, over time you can see how you stack up against others in the industry offering the same service you are. You can bring this knowledge and increased skills into your full time job and further expand.

When I moved from designer and became a design manager assigning projects, and even as corporate VP, I continued to keep a couple of projects for myself. Later, when I opened my own design consulting firm, I was up to speed and had a fresh portfolio of my own designs.

The best way to keep yourself is practice your craft, everyday! As designers it’s important to maintain a daily practice whether it’s sketching, calligraphy or form-giving … everyday is the key! When we practice our craft everyday something miraculously changes first inside and then outside… it’s an experience of oneness with work! So my one line advice and request to fellow designers is, continue practicing your craft.

Dedicate regular time to honing your design skills through consistent practice. Create personal projects, tackle design challenges or exercises. Experiment with different design styles to continuously improve your abilities and creativity.

Hackathons are a very rewarding practice experience. They allow you to team up or work alone, build amazing designs and get a chance to win cool prizes! Join hackathons! I know there are few design hackathons and more app development hackathons! Join them too. Be part of a team. You'll also be practicing your collaboration skills. In my experience, most people who end up building cool stuff on hackathons end up forming a startup. You could too.

Invite constructive criticism and feedback from peers, mentors, and clients to gain valuable insights into your work. Embrace both positive reinforcement and constructive criticism as opportunities for growth and improvement. Actively listen to feedback and use it to iterate and enhance your designs.

My first ever client was unhappy with the designs I made for his frontend website. Looking back I would be unhappy too. He is the reason why I got into design in the first place. Design allows me to prototype quickly, showcase and change it before the hardwork of development. To drive the lesson home, his feedback led me to question my design. Remake it to follow what works. Without his critique I'd probably still be a crappy ass designer. Ofcourse it felt terrible to hear and it was totally necessary. I agree, being an introverted overthinker I have had a hard time sharing my ideas and designs. It was only when I overcame the fear and started sharing I realised how much I was missing from the learning perspective of it.

This type of feedback can be guided within an intelligent system, organized enough to be able to detect and filter all that information that stores or allows attractive content, or of a certain interest. It would be necessary to generate the appropriate criteria for this task, and thus be able to direct the selected information in the direction that interests us, in addition, always taking into account the motivating factor as an integral part of said feedback.

Feedback is a two-way street. Always give and seek constructive feedback. Sometimes is difficult to not take it personally, it is not a criticism of your persona, it is a path to improve your skills and adjust your compass. Remember to always be truthful and honest (with a pinch of kindness) when giving your feedback to others.

Software is moving at the speed of light. New tools are coming out everyday. Most of them are better and make you faster and efficient to meet the fast demand of business today. Spending a weekend learning how to use tools to make yourself more efficient could make you highly stand out from the crowd.

Experimenting with new tools is necessary for growth. We must constantly keep experimenting and thereby improving in our work. In our studio, we emphasize on hands on work. To keep ourselves up to date we procure latest tools and experiment with them. And surely new things emerge… that helps us stay fresh and sharp.

Try merging your design skills with something that seems completely unrelated. For example, how might you design a music box based on a mechanism that uses a custom cam profile to move pins up and down? These pins would interact with some kind of musical elements. Your design would rely on your understanding of cycle timing and some music theory. Maybe you recreate a drum music box from scratch. You could design a series of 3d printed leaf springs that actually make a musical note would you strike it. It would be interesting to design your own cartridges that play pop music song every one knows and loves.

Knowledge is power, right? Well…Not exactly. Knowledge you obtain yourself from doing your own work is power. The best way I’ve found to expand my knowledge is try out what I’ve read for myself by applying practically to my work. I like to start with writing down claims of mechanical fundamentals that are a bit ambiguously explained or need more clarity. I will then attempt to incorporate new insights into something I’m working on to either prove or disprove to myself. Almost always, I’ve found new insights and clarity for myself. Most of the time it’s, “Oh! That’s how that works!” It’s a great feeling and you never forget it. You will be able to explain it in simple terms to anyone and that is true power!
