These innovative professions are well-supported by major professional bodies such as: Institute of Biological Engineering (IBE), Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) and some US ones such as American Institute for Medical & Biological Engineering. One must join any of these bodies, attend conferences, be part of a society and even volunteer to run them. When I joined Royal Society of Biology as a Treasurer for Beds, Herts and Essex branch, I had a great opportunity to meet government scientists and their roles. I invited them as guest speakers for our members and afterwards visited the wider industry and their influence in science. I even met Sir David Attenborough and Sir Alec Jeffreys. Forge a link and invite them as guest speakers.
