Being present is key - and there are different ways to show it: - Eye contact - Facing the speaker in a confident, open and approachable way -Being conscious of the body language you are projecting to the speaker and those in the room p.s. if you are speaking or chairing I think its also key to read the room (be aware of others' body language as much as you are aware of yours-its a way of feedback sometimes (especially in long unstructured meetings!)

One thing I’ve found very helpful in communication is the use of eye contact. When we want to deliver a key message to someone, look at him/her straight to the eyes; it clearly means you are addressing your concern to him/her. Versus when you deliver the message in a meeting without looking at someone, the person you want to address the issue to, might think it is not for him/her.

Sit in the middle of the table or somewhere that ensures people will make eye contact with you. Breathe. Remember to gesture above the table, this will draw in your audience.

Here an example: The perception of vocal and enthusiastic behavior can vary across different cultures. It's important for leaders to be aware of and sensitive to these cultural differences to avoid misunderstandings and effectively communicate their intentions.

In today's C-suite, non-verbal communication is an integral part of Executive Presence (EP). During my leadership experience running meetings at Deloitte and global marketing company, EP was vital for career growth, traditionally focusing on - 1. gravitas, 2. skillful communication, 3. appearance. Here are the new shifts in these areas: - Gravitas now values INCLUSIVENESS over pedigree - Communication emphasizes VIRTUAL SKILLS, EYE CONTACT AND LISTENING - Appearance stresses AUTHENTICITY and adapting to modern dress codes. These changes mark a more inclusive, diverse approach to having great executive presence.

In virtual meetings, our "non-verbal communication" also includes our background, lighting, and positioning in the camera frame. Taking some time to set up proper lighting and ensuring that our face is in the center of the frame is a worthy investment and may contribute to supporting an image of trustworthiness and professionalism.

What seems so simple has a profound impact: Even a few minutes of creating awareness around the context of the meeting and how you (want to) fit in will help you to show up as intended and align your posture and resulting non-verbal cues with what you say.

Punch your fist into your other hand's palm while glaring at the other person. All are examples I've seen in the workplace. Please don't do these things.
