What are the most effective ways to engage community members in restorative justice efforts?

I agree with the comments made by Daniel Lang. In addition to that I would that genuine rapport and relationship is key. The engagement with, and success of meetings, workshops, programs is increased when the time is taken initially to build rapport and relationship with those members of the community that the initiatives are designed for. In my experience, taking the time to get to know individuals and groups is never wasted time. It’s from here that engagement is more likely, along with an increase in positive community outcomes.

I have found that community engagement fosters transferable skills. Hence, last month I facilitated a Becoming Experience: where Humanity meets Grace and Grief Worskshop at a men's prison in CA with survivors, facilitators, and healing partners from the community. This space was shaped to address the harms(sexual/oth) that every one in the room had experienced (no us vs them) as a child, and to also provide support, validation, and empathy for one another. Not only was the room filled with empathy, grace, compassion, and support, but it gave opportunities for the community to take what they experienced back into the lives of others. Ultimately, this type of workshop space can reduce both criminal and generational trauma recidivism rates.

In my years of experience, I've found that engaging community members in restorative justice efforts is a transformative approach. It not only helps to prevent harm and conflict by instilling empathy and accountability but also empowers individuals to actively contribute to solutions, reducing recidivism. Furthermore, including diverse voices in the process enhances the credibility of restorative practices, ensuring fairness. Most importantly, it fosters an environment of learning and growth, allowing both offenders and community members to undergo significant transformations, ultimately promoting rehabilitation and healing within the criminal justice system.

In my experience led initiatives by community and as external expertise, play the roles as community servicing by 1. Go to them 2. Learn with them 3. Initial started with the existing resources in Community. 4. Truth worthy to them 5. Help them to driven local of change by themself. 5. Ensure their financial sustainability.

The best way I have found to find participants is by sharing my own experiences. Being honest about what happened, what I expected, and how I researched to certify my own conclusions of the issue. It is best to learn all you can including all perspectives before putting the results to work and discovering the outcome.

Constructive feedback should be delivered in a respectful and non-judgmental manner, and should focus on the issue at hand, rather than on personal attributes.

This process is difficult because different participants may have strong emotional reactions, conflicting interests, and diverse beliefs.

In order to support and follow up these sought-after outcomes, individuals involved must take the necessary steps to ensure they are being upheld. Providing information, referrals and training to those individuals can be an effective way to encourage progress. Providing emotional or practical support to those affected by the offence is also important for success. Additionally, providing specific resources, such as networks and groups, can also support individuals in need of assistance.
