From my experience with building digital twins of the ocean which are based on data from sensors and ocean models, it is important to not only think of your data being used for that specific purpose that you currently have in mind but think of a broader application and make your data FAIR with focus on interoperable. This includes a thorough semantic description of your data and data sources so that people can understand possible constraints and limitations, but also leverage the advantages from your data preparation work. This initial work will pay off later in the value chain, especially during data visualization & data validation. By having an interoperable description of your data you can use off-the-shelf products & fuse other sources.

It’s crucial to understand the specific needs of your project before diving into data preparation.
