My observation has been that those most successful in IT Security/Cybersecurity are those who don't settle into a comfort zone. Sometimes they like to stay in one place, like Security Operations Center, and hone their craft. Sometimes they like to climb the ladder into security engineering, architecture, other specialty roles, or leadership. But they continue learning and tinkering and growing.
