In my experience, engaging senior faculty early in the planning of diversity initiatives is key. This proactive approach allows you to address concerns before they become entrenched resistance. Demonstrating respect for their expertise leads to more constructive dialogue and greater buy-in down the line.

Fear happens when someone’s Nervous system detects threat. To Paraphrase Dr Stephen Porges, “the absence of threat is not the same thing as safety.” How someone ends up feeling at the end of a conversation has at least as much to do with the presence of the presenter as what was said.
