Use 1/3 to 2/3 geometric ratios for snap cross-section between tip of the snap and the root. In injection molding it is always better to start from the LMC side since this will make the mold “metal safe”. Later, you can test the prototype and adjust to increase the snap force.

Use snap-fit joints for frequent or easy assembly/disassembly. Minimize number and size of snap-fit joints. Match materials for snap-fit and mating parts. Align joints with assembly/disassembly direction. Provide clear user instructions and feedback. Avoid overloading or overstressing joints.

Conduct tolerance analysis to ensure that the mating parts can be assembled/disassembled with specified force. Design the snap features with appropriate geometry, such as draft angles and fillets, to facilitate assembly/disassembly and reduce stress concentrations.

In my perspective: The snap-fit joints are not strong enough to securely lock two parts together with the support of screws, bolts, and nuts. So, while introducing snap-fit techniques in an assembly, a product designer has to remember the following facts: 1) The snap-fit joints respond with a compression force against the bending resistivity of the material; 2) When the temperature rises more than the material's resistivity, a crack or deformation will cause the lock to fail. 3) A small amount of wear on the corners of entering and meeting points when crossing the endurance limit of usage will cause the lock to fail; 4) Without the combination guidance along with snap-fit, the lock will fail due to even a small amount of shock or vibration.

Accounting for failure. Think about serviceability - does it ever need to be opened? If so, when? Plastic ages and may become brittle - think about car door panels, I have personally broken many snap clips removing them but there always seems to be enough left over to re-attach. So accounting for failure in terms of how many failures can be tolerated before part becomes non-functional. This can be just as powerful of a risk-mitigation technique to the overall product as over-designing the clips to *try* to avoid individual failures.
