In my experience, active listening is key, without which we may not fully understand and effectively address/resolve/implement whatever the case may be. We should not always rely on spoken words, body language is a giveaway. Patience and empathy is another important skill we must have. We all love attention, simple. Once I understood that, it became easy for me to deploy patience and empathy in my relationships, especially at the workplace. It has always paid off handsomely, especially during conflict resolutions. One must never feedback. Please think through it before responding. Try as much as possible to be unbiased. Ask for more time to chew the whole situation, if you are not required to respond immediately.

I had a meeting with a business manager to offer to help him with his recruitment, thanks to my expertise in graphology. I thought I was on conquered territory, because we had a friend in common. To my surprise, I felt him reserved, cold, suspicious. On his table were stacks of files, with a handwritten letter at the top of each stack. I sat down and commented on one of the letters. He listened to me, then showed another letter. I took a real exam. It was only after 30-45 minutes that he relaxed. I felt it in his eyes, in the way he held himself in his seat. We started talking. He had a bad experience giving work to someone close to him. He felt betrayed. People talk to you, not just with words. In a way, the body has its intelligence.
