Knowing how to translate/interprete English is only a part of teaching it. Submerge yourself in education and reap what you sow.

For me , being a ESL teacher is incredibly beneficial. it allows me to constantly learn from my students' diverse perspectives and cultures , enriching my own understanding of the world

Having taught in a classroom for quite a few years I definitely found transitioning to private tutoring more fulfilling to myself and for my students.

Actually I disagree with volunteer work per say. I see it as a safety net that holds one back from their potential. If it's a job, one will make sure to do it correctly and will not have the luxury of error. As a volunteer people have the tendency to the classic "I'm not getting paid for this" should admin correction come into play. The commitment becomes compensated. Teaching is not easy, and not because of the job, it's because of the students. Remembering ones scholastic experience will give perspective of what may be faced in the classroom setting. Dive in and swim. Floaters will only keep you from making the effort you need. Once you're getting paid for your effort the 1 or 2 students that you reach will be so rewarding regardless.

As a teacher I have developed curriculum for the classroom but, I must admit, I had not thought about specializing and designing a curriculum focused on legal terminology for students.

I agree and disagree at the same time. We waste so much time on lesson planning that we wear ourselves out. Find a publisher who has done all the legwork of planning and focus on the teaching. There is where I say, use your translation experience in the classroom along with the available technology to make the learning more engaging. In today's market, there are tons of publishers who have the full yearly planning done so that teachers only need to figure out weekly distribution depending on their school's needs. Most even have a basic weekly schematic to help guide your distribution. Focus more on the actual education of the students and use your abilities to enhance your content delivery.

Building on your experience is helpful in terms of vocab & industry, however, I would say that building on ready-to-use curriculums is crucial for beginners in teaching.

Obviously, networking is a great way to be noticed for career development. One thing I have seen that, in my career I have hired few people from my own network because I used to know their capabilities and specialities. They are still doing good in their career. Network not only helps to bloom yourself but also finds talents which will be helpful for your organisation.

This is actually one of the best things to do. Our community is full of experience and hacks that can be so beneficial. Teaching seminars have become more realistic and brutally honest with schools, administration, and, yes, us teachers. Sometimes we're disincouraged by our school, district, other colleagues or students. Teaching communities help recharge our batteries. It let's one vent frustration and to know, we are not alone. We share battle scars and compare wounds. It's all part of comradery and helps strengthen the profession. We teachers need solidarity for obvious reasons. It's said that teachers don't do it for the money, well neither do surgeons however, one is compensated exceptionally more than the other, wouldn't you agree?

When transitioning careers in a field it is best to have or build a brand. When you stop seeking translator engagements and start looking for teaching engagements, ensure that all (really all) social profiles reflect that change. "Jane Doe is a teacher of ... to ..." Because potential clients will Google you in the final phases of their purchase decision. If they find a consistent description of yourself they feel confident to hire you. If you do it right and with enough consistency (and quantity) Google may reward you with an entry in the Google Knowledge Graph and a Knowledge Panel. Those elements carry your brand online with great impact.

I tend to focus more on my results with my students and their level of proficiency versus marketing myself. I am a strong believer in doing the work because it speaks for itself. The school I work for as a first year school doubled its enrollment with zero marketing. The results spoke for themselves. Students were speaking in English outside of the classroom setting, watching English programming at home, translating instructions for their parents from products or medication, etc. and reading in English. This year we're frighteningly heading in the same direction. Apart from what our school offers that other schools don't, the work that the teachers put in shows up in the results; our students. There is a balance to be found. Even though methodologies change, new ideas are presented and revolutionary systems are developed... One of the reasons long-lasting methods are still being used is because they work. Modern life is great, useful, quicker and surely more connected. But modern life is not necessarily always better. Taking each new idea with a pinch of salt goes a long way while we find the best ideas for ourselves to use in the classroom.
