Temporary work and contract work can sometimes be a short busy burst. So very important to set your working hours, inclusive of some reasonable over time. I would not advise to work work work, as its "only" temporary, as good health can also be "only" temporary. And no amount of money can be your health. Typically, we work 9-5/6pm, then you could do 1-2 hours of over time a day, meaning, no more than 8pm, which is your maximum at anytime. Remember, over time even paid, is always a choice. No one can force overtime upon you. Take care and good luck. Health over wealth.

As a working mother, toiling over consultancy works and contractual works, I always recommend making a simple to do list. Opening excel in a laptop can at times seem intimidating. So avoid that. Open your own named page in whatsapp and jot down list right at night before d next day. Once done you can cater to unexpected unplanned works depending on priority on the same day or trickle it down next day. Check the to do lists that u completed today ( mostly u have completed all) and then decide next things again. Once you get into the habit you will enjoy the sense of purpose, then shift into a mis format in excel.

I got in the habit of blocking off chunks of time in my calendar for deep work. If a meeting came up, I would re-schedule that time somewhere else in my schedule. And I always confirmed a due date/time for every task. Nothing worse than missing a deadline! Lastly, I scheduled 30 minutes at the end of my day to finish up anything that could be done quickly and to confirm my schedule for the next day.

There are so many awesome tools out there to help with productivity - the problem is choosing the ones that work for YOU and then building the habit of actually using them. I found OneNote to be particularly helpful in capturing notes, most-used internal links, snippets from presentations, etc. And it make it easy to clean-up and share with others. Another favorite of mine is Kanban. When used by the entire team, it's incredibly effective at keeping everyone informed and updated on status and changes.

One mistake I made when first contracting was never taking a day off, even when I was ill. When you don't have PTO/Sick time, it's sometimes difficult to justify missing out on wages for a day or two. Plan your breaks and budget for them. In the US, gaps between contracts can be covered (partially) by Unemployment Insurance but that only covers a portion of what you make. So plan on having an emergency fund or a side hustle to compensate. Most importantly, 2-3 months before the end of your contract, kick your networking into gear. If you're proactive and have a good rep, there's no reason you can't secure another contract that immediately follows the one ending.

Nothing's worse than being shorted on a paycheck because you neglected to submit your time.
