Treat deadlines like clients: demanding, but rewarding. Set smaller, personal deadlines within the project, like conquering a chapter a day. Reward yourself when you meet them. When motivation dips, remember why you started: the thrill of bridging language gaps, the intellectual challenge, the satisfaction of a job well done. And don't forget, even seasoned translators need a break. Recharge, return refreshed.

First, you have to be committed, and this can be done by making a to-do list. Try to divide the whole thing into small pieces. Imagine starting with a big file with no plan, knowing that the deadline is very tight, what do you think you are going to do? Nothing, you'll get bored and stressed! Here is what I recommend: 1- You have to divide the file into small parts. 2- Set a deadline for each one. 3- Give yourself a break in between. 4- Don't use any social media while working, isolate yourself! 5- Your deadline should be earlier than the one set by the client for reviewing and proofreading purposes. It is good to set goals but I never brake projects into smaller tasks. To be able to stay focused on a subject the best is to just take breaks from one project with some smaller ones but never loose dynamic and tone of voice for the big one in order to ensure quality and consistency. Also, a good practice is to go through references, get to know the client, determine the field, industry and possible time to get to know with needed tools, terminology and have a vision of the subject you are dealing with in global. This will change your mindset and make you stay on the right path. It will be easier to determine proper tone of voice and guidelines.

Dividir un projecto grande en tareas mas pequeñas suele ser bastante util para hacer que el proceso se sienta menos pesado, asi como tener una sensacion de progreso constante para manterse motivado con cada pequeño paso que nos acerca a la meta. Dar plazos de tiempo para cumplir estas tareas mas pequeñas tambien nos ayuda a no perder tiempo que podria ser vital en caso de encontrarnos con un problema inesperado durante nuestro trabajo.

Un buen inicio es determinar un horario especifico del dia para trabajar en tu projecto, dejar un horario secundario en caso de que algun otro evento ocupe tu horario principal tambien es una buena practica. Limitar estimulos que puedan distraerte es de vital importancia, cosas como dejar el celular en vibrador, apagar las notificaciones, o simplemente dejar el celular lejos pueden ser buenas opciones.

Crear un documento que te ayude a llevar seguimiento de el trabajo que llevas realizado es bastante util y me ha ayudado bastante en proyectos largos. Existen multiples herramientas y aplicaciones para ayudar con esto, es bueno intentar con mas d euna para ver cual se adapta mejor a ti o te es mas facil de utilizar. Un trabajo bien gestionado y organizado suele ser mucho mas eficiente y dar mejores resultados .

I would like to give an example: To manage project and meet deadlines effectively, I created an Excel table and dashboard to organize continuing and finished projects. It helps me manage the process with time-focused approach and prioritize projects to be delivered. Even I tried to improve my table through VBA programming and conditional formatting with the aim of automating project management and visualizing the data via PowerBI, Looker Studio, Tableau etc. In addition, I am working on assessing the documents according to notes and comments given by project initiators, conducting QA checks and analyzing the criteria through a scale of 1-5. In my opinion, it will advance your management skills and time-focused approach to the translation.

En mi experiencia suelo dejar intervalos de 20 o 30 minutos entre sesiones de trabajo para asi poder descansar. Esto ayuda mucho a no sentirte abrumado por el trabajo y mantener tu mente enfocada. Darle un descanso apropiado a nuestro cuerpo es muy importante ya que sobre cargarnos puede aumentar la probabilidad de cometer errores o hacer mas lento nuestro ritmo de trabajo.

Tener cerca de nuestro espacio de trabajo algun elemento que nos recuerde porque hacemos lo que hacemos ayuda a subir la moral y mantanerte motivado. Estos elementos pueden ser muy variados, una foto de la familia, algun auto nuevo que quieras comprar, una casa, un departamento o la foto de tu mascota pueden ser muy utiles par amejorar el estado de animo cuando nos sentimos cansados y desmotivados despues de un largo dia de trabajo.

You should always reward yourself. For example, going on a small vacation or just taking longer breaks is fantastic. Otherwise, you will eventually feel burnt out. I know how it is to get up at 6 a.m. to translate until evening every single day. I wouldn't like to come back to those times.

D'après mon expérience, j'aimerais ajouter que tout commence en amont : faudrait bien évaluer le travail et anticiper sur les imprévus, entre autres... (j'aime à dire : "prévoir les imprévus"). Fort donc de ces éléments et éventuels aléas, on peut négocier et obtenir des délais raisonnables.
