I don't know much about the British poet, William Cowper. But he wrote a great line in 1785 that has real relevance here: “Variety is the very spice of life, that gives it all its flavor.” When we work on diverse assignments, we stay a lot fresher, avoiding the career-crushing pitfalls of "this is how I always do this." To be a thought leader is to: a) have thoughts and, b) show others how to get somewhere. That requires that you keep exploring those somewheres for yourself, even if a project seems intimidating. Besides, peppering life with some creative challenges is a lot more fun.
